According to Thom Yorke, stuff from Burial is the sound of 2007/2008... I was a bit scared to listen to dubstep before, but I'm really digging it now.

What a response this is - you're essentially saying people who have tried to find dubstep they'd enjoy but have failed ignorant for having different tastes than yours.

I happen to think the vast majority of artists and tunes you've recommended over your tenure here on TA utter - the kind of music people only find so they can list names on internet forums that will make them look good other members of the "trendster elite", which then begs the question:

Do you live underground, or just sleep there?

:conf:

But does that really mean you're just an elitist snob so obsessed with knowing more about the most underground of trends that he doesn't even really enjoy the music he listens to?

I certainly don't know the answer to that, but I've got a pretty good feeling about what it might be.

I'd love for you to prove that feeling wrong.

Did you completely miss the point of my posts?

Would you listen to one Aphrodite track and claim drum'n'bass is ?

Would you listen to one Chris Liebing track and claim techno is ?

It's not even a matter of opinion. It's just misinformation and ignorance. Further, to just brush it off as a "fad" shows a complete lack of understanding of the evolution of (dare I call it) "urban" UK music. Actually, I don't even know why I expect anything more from the bloghouse/mnml crowd.

As for the rest of your post, it's so ing funny that you think Sand Leaper has great taste and I don't, when I've found that my tastes match his better than anyone I've ever met. It's uncanny, really. Makes me think you have some sort of personal grudge with me and can't help but demonize everything I'm about.

And yes, I am obsessed with knowledge. I don't know why you think it clouds my appreciation of the music itself though. If you'd like to provide examples, then go on.

s sake, I think Jan likes plenty of as well - in fact I think pretty much everyone posting on this forum enjoys some particularly records (cue "Electro Hairspray" post), but feel free to continue to infer my specifics about my opinions from a few posts on the internet.

And I don't think anything clouds your appreciation, I just don't know if I buy that you particularly care about/appreciate anything beyond "knowing" about music - and making sure other people know just how much knowledge you think you have.

Nothing personal m8, just calling them like I see them.

And yes, I play ty records. ty house and mnml records. I know, believe me - I do, but really appreciate the obsessive reminders anyway.

Ever been moved to tears by a record?

Of course, I think anyone for whom music is a major part of their lives will inevitably experience some sort of deep, emotional response to a piece of music.

Listen Ory - the point of my original post wasn't to call you out as some kind of inept, cold, music database and I'm sorry to have put it as bluntly as I did, but just because Az seems to toss off the genre lightly doesn't mean that some of the rest of us posting haven't tried at least a few other flavors of Dubstep before deciding it just wasn't for us. Taste is taste, and frankly no matter how delicate or bluntly you put it - I'm going to continue to really enjoy ty tech house, quote en quote "MNML", and crappy new techno because that's what I like.

I wouldn't expect you'd do anything different when it comes to your tastes, nor would I expect you to sit and endure hours upon hours of tech/house/mnml/etc. in order to decide you thought it "wasn't that good/was ."

I saw The Plastician in 2006 at the Enormous Room in Cambridge, MA.

I have to say, while it wasn't totally my thing--very much a glass-of-white-wine-at-the-club, mini-scarf, and Castro-hat sort of crowd (maybe just a Cambridge thing...)--but I could definitely see the appeal. I think dubsteps has gotten much better since then though: just a lot more diversity in the sound and a lot more interesting takes happening.

Never seen the attraction in dub step. Anything thats been recommeded to me I've found hard to listen to for any length of time and I certainly couldn't see myself enjoying it in the club enviroment.

Anyway, to each their own i suppose..

Taste is taste

If you're gonna be an advocate of everyone's tastes being different/subjective and the "this isn't for me"-opinion, then you can't in the same breath write people's tastes off on the "trendster elite"-tangent solely because you hate the music these people love.

The opinion that everyone's tastes are different/subjective entails that one person can enjoy and respond emotionally to a certain kind of music on its own merit while another person could absolutely despise it. To then go and brand this enjoyment as merely being in with the "trendster elite" just because you hate this particular music would be a contradiction, as it rules out the possibility that someone can actually enjoy this music on its own merit.

Actually by basing that statement on someones actions rather than tastes I can say that quite easily.

That's the point. How do you prove that a person likes music just because it's "trendy" and "makes him look cool"?
