|
hmm i have a fair few majors but my collection doesnt solely consist of trance

so, on the wonderful wheel, you have: same key, +1, -1, +4, -3, +7.
yes, there are times when any of those rules might not work, but that's the DJs job to work around. |
dont know where you got that from?? that will not be a harmonic mix as far as i know.

which is the point i think people keep ignoring. its a guide, which you can break at any point you choose :) |

mate, misinterpret what I said if you want, I'm just stating that I've never consciously gone into a mix/set with the intention to keymix - over time you should do it naturally for some or most transitions without having to think about it.. |
youre trying really hard to disagree with me when you don't ;) youre saying "i dont feel obliged to strictly follow key rules, but i do it generally/naturally anyway". so basically, youre key mixing. and whats my opinion? key mixing > not key mixing, all things being equal.

nobody else here is either :conf:
you are right tho, there are a number of keys that match up with other - it's not like only G minor tunes will match G minor tunes.. having said that, I don't understand the complexities behind music keys - this is just based on what I understand..

and you're comparing singing in key to DJing in key? well done.. that's like comparing sailing a boat to eating a brick. |
bollocks. get two singers to sing a harmony and have one of them in the wrong key. check out how it sounds. |

from TA poster nemesis44, who is THE when it comes to questions about harmonic mixing. the +4 and +7 are hit and miss, but again, its about knowing that youre about to do a +4/+7 mix and planning accordingly.
in my experience with uplifting trance -3 almost always works, and is my favourite type of harmonic mix. a wonderful lift in energy, yummy yum yum. |

It's exactly the same, only instead of mixing two songs you have an acapella and backing music. |

That's what I was talking about yesterday when I said "the music equivalent of a kick in the arse" - a sudden lift in energy.
I find +2 works pretty well for this too. |

oh, if that's what you mean then I getcha but I reckon that's still a completely different kettle of fish - if you layer two tracks over one another they have to be in key, but swapping tracks isn't the same thing as vocals over music.. |

You've never heard of singers singing "out of key"?
Or tone deaf cunts trying to sing? Not a pleasant experience. |
