wow....what a joke that article is....I think the COC needs to get its collective head out of its ass.

The only places where I can even see Canada getting any medals are in the Men's Diving (3meter is our best chance) and rowing/kayaking/canoeing events.

That again just shows how pathetic our athletics program is. If we can only be truly competitive in rowing events that is bad....considering how many events there are at the olympics. Just look at how many events the US and China are at least competitive in and have a chance for a medal.

comparing Canada to the US and China may be a stretch, but if we look at other nations with comparable populations and GDP such as Australia, we're so far behind.

btw. does anyone know of a good proxy to access some of the Olympic highlight vids on NBC? I tried using one but the video doesn't play. It's restricted to US residents only.

the infrastructure of the US athletics program is one of the best, if not the best, in the world. right from the highschool/collegiate system through college, and so forth. Kids from around the world can get scholarships to US colleges for just about any sport, summer or winter.

You'd think Canada would do a lot better in the winter games, given its geography and climate, but even there we still lag behind countries like Norway with a far smaller population and GDP compared to ours. Sports funding is simply not a priority here so it really makes you wonder..

Agreed....I can even accept that our Summer Olympics shouldn't be as strong as our Winter Olympics even though Geographical location cannot be an excuse in this day and age.

Canada sets itself up for dissappointment by sending to many athletes. There is no reason we should have over 300 athletes at the olympics....we should be sending closer to 100 - 150 athletes.

the over-glorification of american athletes. Well we won't get into that :)

I don't look at them as American athletes to be overglorified....I look at them as people who are going above and beyond their life's dreams and are heroes to many people :)

What awesome moments on the women's gymnastics team today. It's really great to see good sportsmanship is still alive and strong!
