While I do agree that at some point a line needs to be drawn. As say, I dont think a dog-show should be part of the Olympics, even though there is also a human element to it as the dog is trained by a person.
But, I do think with horse riding that there is enough human skill / physical nature involved to have it be justified for being in the Olympics. |

How awesome would that be..and its something we could win a medal in :P lol
|
I would like to see that but I don't think it would work simply because of the healing time required between fights. |

30 mill vs 140 for russia (so they are almost even there)
but we have 1/10th the population of the states and only 1/7th of the medals |
Although I do agree that population is a factor when determining the number of potential good athletes you have, I don't think that is the measuring tool that needs to be used when comparing how well one country is doing against another. I would suggest a better comparison would be number of events competed in per medal. I don't have the numbers but I think that will give you a better comparison for how good a country is doing. |

simple.....its judged by people and people make mistakes...that is why it shouldn't be an olympic event...all human judged events should be removed from the olympics.
The new system is better though....although it does favour difficulty and style and artistic impression in basically lost now....when someone can attempt to do a very difficult routine and up and score a lot higher then someone who does a somewhat less difficult routine perfectly with flare and style....doesn't make sense |

yeah, it was pretty bad lol
Diving is just as bad...
Here is what our CBC announcers kept saying after a CHINESE individual dove...
Paraphrasing...
"The Chinese diver had a decent dive, but the cheers and roar of the crowd usually influence the judges marks and usually gives them 0.5 to 1 point higher than what they should've gotten because the audience thought it was a good dive..."
WTF kind of judging is that??

phelps did not win that race! |

I'm sorry but Cavic ed up...
I saw that replay over and over and over and Phelps hit that mark first...
Cavic should've given just one more little kick at the end but instead decided to stretch it out...
Problem is he was coasting and Phelps powered into the wall...
Fair and square...swimmer error... |

Actually I didn't, but that's beside the point. And calling someone ignorant != calling them names IMO but whatever.
I'm done with this "discussion" (and yes Extasie, I see the point you were trying to make, and I agree to an extent only :p). |

Interesting article about the financial compensation in the olympics
In China, all Olympic medalists are striking gold
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/serv...0820.wolyminc20
"The average Chinese gold-medal winner this month will receive about three million yuan (about $460,000) in prizes and bonuses, according to an article in Titan Sports, a Chinese sports newspaper."
