I mean who says you have to have exact tastes in stuff like music? As long as the person can understand where you're coming from and why you like what you like and can tolerate it, what's the problem? |

As long as people respect each other and don't cheat, there shouldn't be a problem... I never had problem about musical taste of any girl.. Personality is much important, oh well music is not my life, neither clubbing.. It is better not to start a relationship before you regret...

of course you can date someone with different musical taste than you. do you honestly think that you will be clubbing for the rest of your life? that you are going to be that guy/girl? it's part of maturing in a relationship, respecting and accommodating each other's differences (within reason, obviously).
on that note, me and my bf met through mutual taste in this music; however, clubbing is the absolute last thing we want to do when we spend time together - so there is something to be said for accommodating someone's taste in music vs. accommodating someone's lifestyle/involvement in the 'scene' |

Doesn't look like anyone's said it yet -
music is music. There's trance, house, R&B, top 40, alt rock et cetera. Point is, there's bound to be lots of everywhere - It's just a matter of finding the quality. I'm proud to say I've got the Notorious BIG, the Police, John Lennon, U2 and Above & Beyond mounted in 12" vinyls up on my wall as a show of my admiration for a good record, regardless of the genres I listen to the most frequently.
When looking for a significant other I've always been most adamant about finding someone with a passion for music; not just trance music or house music or rock music, but music music.
Also very proud to say I came really ing close too. :) Ah well, next time. |

I dated a girl who was into the more "rapid" and "hardcore" end of the rock spectrum - It wasn't the difference in musical tastes that did us in, it was her being a posessive, lopsided self-masochist. |

Although, while I know there are exceptions, blah, blah, blah - I find that the type of music a person into, can also say quite a bit about their personality. Especially if they are really INTO the music, and the life-style around it.
For example, it's one thing to like rap music, it's another thing to be really into rap music and the thugg-vibe/attitude/lifestyle that can go with it and the scene around it.
While I wouldn't have issue if they liked some rap music. But, if they ran around in urban wear, bling-bling and had that wanna-be thug attitude and into the "scene" - then that's a deal breaker, but theres alot more there that's probably breaking the deal than the music that they like. |
