helll mothuin no...how could they? 3 of the worlds top 10 djs were here in hollywood and downtown...

Actually, I am gonna disagree with you.

As I've gotten older, the people I know aroudn me getting older do the whole buy liquor at the store and slam it int he car...maybe because as we are getting older we are going to more venues with in-and-outs? So you can slam some alcohol, go in...and when you need more alcohol, just take a break and go back to your car.

When people are young they are more careless with their money...but as they get older and get more wise with the money, then they start taking advantage of being able to go to their car.

Lets hope not to many use your logic. Clubs are expensive to operate, especially the big clubs. If everybody partyied like you and rich then we would not have such great clubbing. DJ's are not coming all the way out here several times a year for most of their adult life for free, no matter how much they love it.

I havent read the entire thread, but its pretty clear that there isnt another city in the world that books as much of the top EDM talent over the course of the year as LA does. You just cannot argue that. Just look at where all the TOP DJ's choose to play every NYE. its where the money and mass consumers are.

However, Obviously others have a point when they argue the quality of the clubs themselves, infrastructure, and club crowd. But as Rich said, these are two completly different arguements

Ummmm.. lol your way off... London, Amsterdam and in the USA Miami has way better bookings and much much better clubs than LA... Seriously if you guys think Vanguard is good you have never been anywhere else....

You are way off with london, ask anybody that lives there and they will tell you the clubbing scene in london has gone to . They have had so much clubbing and top DJ talent thrown in their face week in and week out for the past 15-20 years that they are just sick of it.

I see LA following a similar path, only leading to an underground and rave revival which you already see happening in the past couple years with the techno movement and huge numbers at the massives. Im not sure that London has seen the same results.

Miami may have much better clubs as far as infrastructure, abundance and good looking crowd, but they are far from the quality of bookings that occur in LA year round. And thus it depends on your clubbing intentions as to which club scene you find more appealing.

I hope you are not suggesting that this happens at Vanguard, considering nobody can see the line :) It might happen at the front door promoters, but this never happens with the Giant line.

that one was directed at avalon. i've been to avalon 6 times and it's been like that every time regardless of what time i show up or if it was giant or spundae or ahp throwing the party. i've come to realize the promoter has nothing to do with how ty the door is managed at that club. vanguard's line has been efficient every time i've been there. same with circus. it's the fact that i've been to avalon more than any other club in la that that sticks out in my head. once it was even raining on everyone and they wouldn't get the line moving.

too funny hearing about the Florentine Gardens.

the 1st weekend i moved to LA (this will date me), MARS 103.1 was playing dance music 24/7. I heard an ad on MARS for a club nite at Florentine so I went and checked it out. My recollection was it was pretty Latin back then too, but with dance music. Might have been 18+. My one and only time in that venue LOL.

Best part of the nite was driving back to Manhattan Beach via the 101 Freeway and somehow i end up going east on the 10 and wondering how the heck i ended up in East LA!!! :whip: :D :D :D

i will say at Avalon if you have presales you do get in reasonably quick. no comment on the other lines :D

i'm not really trippin on anything, i just wanted to point out how ridiculous this whole "my scene is the best ever, end of story." talk is by showing how inadequate the reasoning has been. you want to argue the booking end of the equation while ignoring the experience. well what if there was a city with twice as many top bookings as la except everyone inside smells like human and there's a 50% chance of getting stabbed? do you argue that place is better than la because it has twice the bookings ignoring everything else?

i can see how not having that luxury available to you makes it no big deal. people in china think not having freedom of speech is no big deal too. however when you have a freedom to do something and it's taken from you, yes, it does impact the quality of your experience. being able to come and go as you please is more than just going to your car to take a few swigs and that is only one part of it. i am also done with this 'debate'. if i go any deeper into this, i'll begin to look like a hater. i just wanted to point out the club experience in la is nowhere near the best. bookings, perhaps.

Dead on. Very well said. That is exactly how I feel. LA may have the bookings but that alone does not make a good party or experience. From what I have seen so far (6 months),the LA experience is poor.

I am comparing to NYC, Miami, Philly, DC, and Toronto.

Wasn't that Groove Radio? or its sister station?

I recall back in the day i was so jealous that LA had a non stop dance music station since SD never had such a thing and prolly never will. Once we got in the OC we would switch over to 103.1 to start to listen to HOUSSSE!

Remember on the holiday weekends Power 106 would play house for most the weekend?

Ahhh the memories....
