Maybe. Call it a matter of personal preference then. Aside from the Guidos I like the crowd and vibe better. |

At WMC 2008 I met and saw lots of people from NY they had a much better vibe and their chicks were hot... |

You all are crazy. I have been to completely sold out events where it was completely danceable and not too stuffed.
When this happens is when events are sold out before doors open with no tickets being sold at the door, or a very small amount. And the venue doesn't even bother trying to sell moer tickets until very late in the night, if at all...usually when the post 2am crowd starts leaving once the alcohol wears off.
That said, on nights where presales wouldn't be sold out and they would sell tickets at the door and a ton of people show up...those nights tend to get very uncomfortable...because the same type of capacity control just isn't there.

Then I guess you havent been to Vanguard on a Guetta, PVD or Tiesto night to see how it feels at 2:33 AM |

I have been to a TON of their shows.
I have seen both sides of what I talk about with Tiesto specifically. I was outside of a club smoking and they told everyone to go back around front to get back in...only to wait an hour because the fire marshall was there and they sold to omany tickets at the door!
And then I've been to nights with Tiesto where it was completely sold out before doors opened and you could find a good spot on the floor...maybe not right up front-and-center, but you could find a spot.
PvD at ten15 never really sells out because it has a bunch of rooms and they just put the overflow crowd in another room and feed in the music.
So no, not at Vanguard. But my point is if that if a club wants to do crowd control and keep a close eye on the capacity, they could. It is not ALWAYS like that when you look across all clubs. If other clubs can keep an eye on capacity, so can Vanguard.

| the simple solution here is to double the price of presales next time he comes to town. from there you can adjust the price at the door and have a better idea about the demand you're dealing with. |

you can't really work it that way....when a contract is signed between a promoter and a dj's booking agency, there typically are stipulations as to the presale ticket prices as well as the door prices.
everyone I was there with and talked to commented on the crazy line to get in but no one I knew there (30+ people??)) said it was too packed to enjoy the nite. |

Cool1g is giving good info here. And I would hope you guys trust my opinion on Vanguard. I was Giant's promo director since they've been at Vanguard right up until a couple months ago (left for my own reasons...and as most of you know it's mostly because I'm moving). I have been there for the slow nights, the crazy nights, the Friday Insomniac nights (PVD, Tiesto, and so on) and everything in between. Used to host and dj the backroom with 4:Score and opened the mainstage 6 times including for Serge Devant and Blank & Jones the first night they started with the hip hop upstairs. I wasn't happy about that change either. But this is a business...and chages like that help make it possible to bring you...well let's see...Guetta, Sasha, Digweed, Sanchez, Kaskade, Dubfire, Sharam, Fedde, Benassi, Sinclar, Catteneo, ect, ect. I worked for 3 years with Avalon before that. And now from someone on the outside of promotion...just going out to have a good time (hell...I spun at Circus Saturday while still trying give you all advise on how to get into Guetta)...I still have to say that the Vanguard staff and Giant does all they can to make the best possible club experience for you guys, and too many people take it for granted.
It just upsets me. I'm leaving LA soon and I can't tell you how much I'm going to miss this club scene and all it has given me. Not that I won't be back as often as possible, but I won't, at any given time, have the options of fantastic clubs and talent and good people to see and enjoy any ing day of the week, and triple for the weekends. Stop the hating and enjoy what you got guys :) |
