I knew it would be overly nuts there. Was cool getting the Vanguard overflow coming to Circus. You definitely weren't the only one. |
Should have gone to circus but instead got stuck at a party where I was insulted by a crackhead with issues and baby sitting our sound system. :whip: :whip: |

i'd love to hear from anyone(tommy) that saw guetta more than once so they can tell me if his performace on saturday was better than his previous saturday(vegas) previous sunday(San diego) or friday night(san francisco) its not like his performance saturdays exceeds that of any other night of the week because he is making more on a saturday than he would on a tuesday. hes not manny ramirez who will tank it and then put it in overdrive at any moments notice.
saturday is the only night of EDM at vanguard(and avalon i think) so thats the only supply, whereas in SF you can find it thursday, friday and saturday. I know if i had chosen to go see tiesto at vanguard in the summer, i wouldnt have cared if it was a tuesday, wednesday, or thursday, if anything the least packed night would have been my preference. I dont go to events because its the spot to be, i go to events because I want to see the performer, im sure many of the Guetta attendess on saturday had no idea who he was at the beginning of 2007.
Also last year whem guetta played sf in november(the day after vanguard) he did so at a small club called SLIDE, which is next to ruby sky and presales were $10. Dj's are like stocks, right now guetta's stock is high. |
To tell you the truth I am prob the only one on here that saw him 3 times LV,SD and LA his show in Vegas was the best. His set and venue were way better. Then I was off to SD I liked it a lot it had a house music appreciation feeling to it like at least 80 percent of people were there for the music keep in mind it was Sunday night. In LA there were soooo many people there it was insane, I think Giant def underestimated Guetta and will make some changes next year if he continues to rise. I am thinking 2 night show a Thursday then Friday he will be in SF then he will be back here Saturday I mean that's what I would do If I was Dave Dean. 2nd the biggest biggest problem Vanguard faces is its ventilation system/ AC it sucks ass and its not designed to handle the amount of people they let in. I don't wanna hear any excuses we have all gone to many clubs all over and some even bigger than vanguard it has never gotten as hot as it gets inside of Vanguard. For example TAO in Vegas that place fits and have more people in it than Vanguard it is NEVER EVER hot where you start sweating when you just standing there. Dj's all charge differently based on everything for example Tiesto is charging Heat 40k a night for his upcoming shows and 90k a night for his shows in Vegas. All that being said the only think a club can do is charge more which I don't mind as long as I can have a real good time and I don't feel claustrophobic. In Vegas I was on the list and my girl was comped now that's cool and in SD tix were 25.00. The only way we don't have this thread again later is if Giant does Guetta in LA 2 nights or they charge 75 a ticket. Just Imagine if Tiesto instead of 3 nights he only did one... |

You come to Miami for WMC! And I'll come to SF! |

QFT. Add on top of that, you get house parties by Deep, techno by Compression, Drum n Bass, etc...nothing tops LA in the country. |
exactly
i had the 3 megaclubs, Vanguard, Avalon and Spundae in mind when i posted that obviously...only been to Spundae once in my life and that was 2 see Picotto and even that night was a prime example of the point being made. Back to back monsters....J-00-F followed my fav dj aka the king of Privilege and closed out the set around 1:30......not really a huge J00F fan but i respect his music and i know for you trance-heads, he is a beast...Picotto spins 15,000-25,000 person massives and blows peoples minds in Europe but here in LA hes the 2nd to last act.
I wasnt even mentioning those little and unimportant(I say that with the utmost sarcasm) Friday,Monday,Sunday parties at Vice,Cinespace,King-King,Nacional,Standard rooftop etc., who have accomodated the likes of Adam Beyer,Lee Burridge,Desyn Massielo, Demi, Dave Dresden, James Zabiela for parties that had no more than 500 people. etc
i like to refer to these djs as B-Listers cuz it seems like were so set with solid A-list talent here, they just seem to fade away in the background lol....
sidenote: i would have loved 2 switch the music i heard friday @ Cinespace for the music i heard saturday night @ Vanguard....im sure alot of you guys who attended both nights feel the same way right...? |

since the beginning of october San Francisco has had
Sasha, lawler-at a small venue(harlot), robbie rivera(massive this weekend) pvd(halloween massive in richmond), zabiela-at a small venue(mighty), prydz, tong, axwell at a small venue(vessel) guetta, lovefest weekend(too much talent to list AVB ATB, kyau & albert etc)) kaskade, bennassi, dubfire(this saturday) 4 strings, darude, fedde le grand, sharam(in 2 weeks at harlot)And almost all of these events you could have attended for $10 or less with the exception of the massives, sasha, guetta, prydz(halloween) and the lovefest events.
Ive been to 2 EDM nights this year in OC/LA(sinclair(vanguard) rivera(heat, which i did enjoy) and probably 15+ events in SF this year and i live closer to LA than SF. i did the LA scene up very often from 2002-2005,there is definitely something different about the two places.
I recommend some of you guys(tommy, mikey) who have not done SF to plan a trip in 2009, and I'll show you guys what i mean. by the way my first SF visit was August 2007, so not too long ago. |
people will always praise what they have and knock whats not theirs....
people will always glorify what they have and knock something that they can't have...
im an LA boy and this what i have...
i really dont give a if the ticket is $35 or $65 or $75. It is what it is and if i can afford it I go. If i cant, i shut the up and stay home....
I really mean it with the most utmost sincerity, god willing one day you guys all get sick promotions and raises at work that increase your paychecks by 350% and you can afford to attend these parties without thinking twice about the cover charge. Honestly for a few measly dollars here and there i reallly dont see how bickering is of any relevance.
you are talking about the most glorified, commercialized, subsidized city in the US and arguably in the world...
what do you expect...????
certain parties, certain locations, certain nights cater to certain people. If you see yourself blending in then go for it, if not luckily we have so many "chill" nights with some really great djs that wont cost you so much and wont expose you to sucha ridiculus line. But dont expect to go home that night reliving the party as an overall experience and talking about it months and years down the line with your friends and colleagues. I personally like both scenes. Pick and choose your events, budget your expenditures and you'll be fine. If you are new in town and need some direction of whats really crackin in the city hit any of us up.
and by the way BIGPERF, i know very well what goes down in SF, believe me. But the talent that comes through any city is one piece of the entire "scene" in discussion. Ide like to see a city like SF pull of 4 bottle minimums and sellout tables and tickets for 2000+ person event on a night where women are attending in high heels and skirts in groups of 6. All the while it's a random weekend, and another major dj is headlining down the street. Pound for pound SF definitely gets equally sick talent but as an overall scene, if were talking about the hype and attraction factor Los Angeles is tops. I dont blame you guys for arguing but if you lived in LA and made a living here you would understand and appreciate what's around you. |

umm you must be joking with this one right???
umm im not even gonna rebute that...lol its so retarded it doesnt even need a rebuttal hahahaha
and yes you are going to the wrong nights.
real simple man.
Decide which djs you like and attend the nights when theyre spining.
If you're into trance and can't stand "rolling music" then dont go see Sasha. If you like progressive house and cant stand trance then dont go see PVD...
real simple.
If you like cheeese djs you should definitely hitup Vanguard this weekend lol...Fedde is spining |

Face it. LA is one of the most if not THE most important EDM cities in the world. Besides Ibiza name a city/region who has more quality bookings annually?
Accept it. That’s all. |
