things you are sick of in fashion today (pg. 15)

I don't understand why some of you are so stuck up on being "presentable." I'm all about being comfortable--there are days when I feel comfortable in jeans and then there are days when I wear sweats. I don't see the reasoning in associating sweats with bums; I teach classes wearing sweats, and I personally know professors in my department that do as well.

No they didn't. But neither would me wearing an undershirt with track pants with a grease stain on them.

There are just certain things that are not appropriate to wear in certain settings. You can wear what you want, but I think people who wear stuff like that on a regular basis are sloppy and don't care about their appearance.

LOL why do you people care? If you admit it doesn't bother you, then stop trying to impose your "fashion" on other people.

Wear what you want, and shut your mouth. Unless your school has a uniform policy then it is at the discretion of the individual to decide what he or she deems suitable.

And I very much care about my appearance, maybe not as much as you little girls do, but I dress accordingly to the settings; and I don't think (with the exception of being part of a specific faculty that requires certain dress code)dress code in a school setting is as serious as you guys are wanting it to be.

p.s. the students I really laugh at are the ones that go all out with the make-up and all the whole shabang when they're simply going to class.

Totally.

It's not about the fact that a pair of jeans takes just as long as a pair of sweats to put on or not it's about being comfortable. If one doesn't feel comfortable in jeans and a button down top for a long day of sitting at a desk or in a lab, then why wear that? As far as I know the teacher isn't going to take marks off my attendance because I have some roots pants on and not a nice pair of slacks.

I always saw these little fashionistas at York looking like they were going to roll up into a club at 3 in the afternoon. Really?

this tells alot about how you view education, on top you teach in sweats??? come on!

If I had a teacher coming in sweats, I would drop the class, I don't want to be teached by a slob. Most students want models in front of them, it's not always about the message, but the messenger. The message they can find in the class material. Students want and adult to deliver the message and inspire, you know that little extra.

They work hard to pay tuition and study, the last thing they want is a guy teaching them in sweats.

Well it was the only campus I was on 5-6 days a week so I don't have anything to compare it to I guess.

+1 to this. A student coming to class in sweats is a lot different than a professor coming to class in sweats. Being a teacher is your JOB, be a bit more professional

I know there's plenty of girls that go to school like that b/c they think they're gonna pick up guys or something, but I do know some girls that dress up just b/c they like to dress up and that's what they feel comfortable in.

I refer you to Professor Shawn Lehman of anthropology at my school, he teaches in sweats, shorts, jeans, everything in between. He is currently a finalist on TVO's best lecturer--the students love him.

And to speak to your point about students looking up to their educators as role models, I think that's certainly okay, I have had many teachers who I have looked up to, and still do. However, the way they dressed was the last thing on my list when I decided to 'idolize' them. I hope students are building relationships with their teachers because they can appreciate what the teacher has to say, as oppose to what they're wearing when they're saying it.

I see little use in arguing with you after you admitted that!
