This was not a peaceful protest, this is not a peaceful group, and they had no business protesting this particular issue here. Not that people can't "protest" whatever they want - but the fact that they were ILLEGALLY rallying for THIS particular issue just adds insult to injury.
These people should have all been deported, but not before having the beaten out of them.
"Oh no, people were stuck in traffic!" What if some of those people were on their way to the hospital? What if emergency vehicles had been blocked FROM the hospital? What if parents needed to get home to their kids? What if visitors missed important flights and have now had their entire weeks screwed up? This wasn't a 20-minute delay, this was over 5 hours.
I'm pissed off for real this time. If any of you hypocritical nutsacks had actually been caught in the middle of this, you would have been flipping out and screaming your asses off. But as long as it's not happening to you you, you're a suave intellectual who's really interested in hearing both sides of the story before you judge - even though you don't actually know jack about who they are or what they're protesting and really just want to put other people down for being so hot-headed. you. |

Did it drive the point accross though? most people are actualy aware of the issue now and its sad that it had to take this much effort to make Ignatiev to bring up the issue in parliament. Its funny when the jews who are only 200,000 can easily bring up issues in parliament and have actions taken to defend their rights appropriately. But for the tamels it takes a catastrophy like this just to be heard. |

Bottom line:
It's nobody's right to continually disrupt arterial traffic routes, especially those used for emergency vehicles such as University Ave (home to the UHN's 3 hospitals & Mount Sinai & Sick Kids) and the Gardiner.
I am absolutely disgusted that there have been no arrests. From now on the swine brigade should be showing up with buses, loading these fools onto them, interning them at the old Downsview barracks, charging them, & then deporting them.
Enough is enough. Sorry people are dying, but perhaps they should've come over with the rest of the families. But there's no reason to disrupt emergency services so MORE people can die.

i Dont think anyone died.. and emergency services would have probably been able to pass. the right lane is open and they could surely navigate an ambulance through the protest with enough cops.
so no one died and dont say what if.. because no one did.
Personally, i am on the fence with this issue. i dont think that it should have taken an event like this to make their issue be heard. But since it worked it makes me wonder now the validity of it all.
I am mostly playing devils advocate here because most people are just insulting the tamils in this thread. |

Tell me again when the Jews blocked a major highway and assaulted police officers? And tell me again what "rights" the Tamil Tigers are defending?

You don't know any of this for a fact, and the "what if" question is completely relevant here because this demonstration was conducted with complete disregard to that possibility. |

and have them take more of your tax dollars by being refugees?
which brings up another point...has it occurred to anyone about the amount of money being spent on the police force keeping the peace due to these protests?
not only are most of these protesters getting paid to live here by the government but threatening it furthermore? its just plain wrong
we aren't accepting of Canada being in afghanistan and iraq....why do we want our troops to be in sri lanka?

PPS. oh we finally noticed the plight of these people's families? with the amount of people they've killed not only in Sri Lanka but in India (including assassinations of Rajiv Ghandi etc), I feel no sympathy. I feel sympathy for the actual Sri Lankans that have to bear with these rowdies in their backyards |

they don't need to because they have people in parliament. The tamils are protesting the genocide or persecution of their people (i am not 100 % sure about the reasoning) but apparently their families are dying there. The fact that after this protest ignatieff is now wiling to talk about it in parliament shows that there is an issue at hand and it needs to be discussed. Its just saddening that it had to come down to this. |

WHY DOES CANADA HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? WHY DOES ANY OTHER NATION HAVE TO INTERFERE INDIVIDUALLY IN MATTERS IN ANOTHER COUNTRY UNLESS ITS RELIEF EFFORTS?
