I think blocking a hiway to get notice for human rights abuses and warcrimes is a wake up call and not a desperate act. The police blocked off the road. I have the feeling this was a planned occurence.
I think people need to understand what the situation is like there, people arn't effected so they don't take notice, its just another part of the world that has a war going on.
It is very real to these people with the family being killed in this violence.
These people are not terrorists, those militants in the north are the remenants of a seperate state. The real terrorism is when they loose their land to an occupation, when subnational reality comes into being.
It is a civil war to a certain extent. If they would only have constructive peace talks, but it seems Colombo is intent on controlling the entire area. While this seems like a plausable outcome because the Tamils are outnumber 4 to 1 or greater. The resolution is a minority group in a country that has been traditionally treated like second class citizens.
This conflict is entering a new stage, but we should not abandon human rights or support war propaganda and lies to be spread. The truth, and human rights should be supported.
Why do soilders need to shell a hospital, why not just take it? |

AND, there are more tamils still in Sri lanka than abroad. There are roughly 2 million in the country, as opposed to around 600,000 abroad(the majority of them in Canada).
Genocide might be a harsh word to use in this situation, but in no way are the victims "casualties of war" when the government is deliberately bombing the so-called free-zones that contain hospitals and camps.

lol dude, I wasn't criticizing your spelling mistakes. I was saying I made a few spelling mistakes and thats why I edited my post--it was directed to myself. Its a habit I formed because people would post later and be like "omgomg you edit ur potss lolz you suck argument"

Stop it with your sensationalizing already. You're acting as if they burned and smashed cars, broken into stores and stole things. All they did was shut down a highway and inconvenienced a couple hundred people. Boo-ing-hoo  Soccer matches in Europe are more dangerous than this "riot".
You're right about the moral of the story though: this does work. Maybe if more people were this passionate about certain issues we wouldn't have to deal with a lot of the crap we have to around here (nightlife, corruption...and just general government incompetence) |
