Shoosh, don't say anything now, I think he's on a roll.

Right... I understand. More speficically, I was referring to people who's mental disorders were manifested because of their drug use/abuse when they had no previous history of mental illness... not a substance abuse disorder.

Man, those diagnoses are getting more and more detailed and complex with each DSM revision, aren't they?

drugs and alcohol and even caffeine can induce a psychosis without the person actually having a "mental illness", they just experience some of the symptoms of a mental illness during that psychosis, without them actually being "mentally ill"

Bipolar disorder is no joke, I've seen a grown man in the middle of work break down into tears out of the blue at my old job. When I asked my supervisor what was up, he simply replied that he's been struggling with his bipolar disorder befor I even started working there. Science got it down to a chemical inbalance and ed up electrical currents not passing through in a "normal" way through stem cells. I can't imagine the way it really is to live with it.

everyone keeps talking about "chemical imbalance" but if you go ask a doctor, nurse, specialist, this question:

"can you please prove to me what exactly is a chemical imbalance?"

they will all respond the same way: "no, i cant prove a chemical imbalance exists"

there are a lot of mis-representations when it comes to "mental illness" espescially bi-polar disorder.

i see why people left the forum now.

no one is willing to step up and have a mature conversation, when a mature reply or thread is posted.

everyone feels the need to make fun of everything just to make themselves feel better and feed their ego, because in reality they consider themselves worthless and are insecure in their lack of abilities.

what a shame. scared to be yourselves, you hide every last detail, with very bad jokes. try and have some courage y'all.

This thread was made in 2009. Someone bumped it today, and you spent hours replying to people that said what they said 3 years ago.

Don't be getting all upitty with us because you did that, it's no one's fault but your own.

May I ask, have you been formally diagnosed with bi-polar disorder? If not, what is your intense interest in this 3-year-old thread?

if you havent noticed, i dont really care how old threads are... i respond to new and bumped old threads. (isnt that the point of this forum? to post replies?)

i didnt consider it a waste of time...

intense interest? it took me about 10 minutes to go through the thread and respond...

ps. mattsanity re-opened the thread, maybe he actually does need help.anyone ever think of that?

Sushipunk
Relax, mate.

Nearly everyone that posts here regularly knows what Mattinsanity is like.

No, he's not in any need of help.

Fair go, if you want to reply to 3-year-old posts, that's your business. You won't be getting many replies from those people though. That's another "point of the forum" as you say. It's referred to as "paying attention".

Uh, what? :stongue:

Mental illnesses can absolutely be linked to chemical alterations in the brain. It isn't the ONLY factor, but imbalances (of dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine) have certainly been proven to exist in those with mental illnesses.
