SAY IT TO MY FACE:mad:

oh yea and i like to paint around the house. my next project is an old dresser with gold trim. it's antique-ish looking. i want to paint it and replace the drawer handles.

I spend probably as many as 8 hours a week playing piano, gardening and sewing and doing crewel work (embroidery).

I run and swim everyday but I don't know if working out would be considered a hobby.

I enjoy cooking but I don't know if I'd consider it a hobby. I love making cool dishes with fresh veggies and fruits but when I read some of the stuff elfreak would cook it was way beyond anything I'll ever undertake. I'm more country cooking than gourmet, I suppose.

By "intensely" I mean you would spend at least an hour or two a day on it every day or nearly every day if time permitted, not just something you dabble with once in a while.

Some guy posted this in the Production Forum:

And it got me pondering.

I think as far as broad generalisations go, men are better at concentrating all their efforts towards a single purpose. That's why more often than not the person that is "the best" at any given activity requiring concentration is usually a male. We're just good at being obsessive about . I bet even the best embroiderer in the world is male.

does music count as a hobby?
MrJiveBoJingles
Yes.

Is nagging a hobby or profession, and is it genetic or passed down through the ages?

Slylee
LOL man all you sexist s.

yea, for the most part, a lot of women aren't into hobbies and just like to shop and gossip, but some of us actually do spend 2 or more hours a day doing something we enjoy by ourselves.

and cooking DOES count as a hobby, but i say only if you are constantly looking for new recipes and trying new things and spending a decent amount of time researching recipes and stuff. if you just "like to cook" and cook the same all the time, then i dunno if that could be called a hobby. also, when i was living by myself, i used to cook myself gourmet meals and everyone thought i was nuts but i would explain that i really love cooking, even if i'm the only person around to eat it, then so be it.

my mom and nana are avid readers. it's rare to see my mom without her nose in a book, and they also both are great artists and do water color pictures a lot of what they are looking at (like when at the beach). actually have a lot of artistic ability in the females on my mom's side of the family.

so yea, women can and do have hobbies...nice blanket statements and generalizing in this thread, idiots.

Working out.

Reading.

Writing.

Cooking and baking.

I used to spend hours a day doing photography, but I don't anymore.
