Yeah, I think my running, swimming, piano, embroidery & sewing, and cooking are more like pastimes. I spend time every day or every week doing them.
I don't know what the difference between a pastime and a hobby is, I don't think. |
Honestly, in my world there are the things that take up time due to necessity (eating, showering, sleeping, school/work, studying etc.), commuting time (probably could fit into necessity, but whatever), and then downtime which is when I vegetate and play video games. After all that, I don't have time to do anything else except maybe get a few messages on TA and Facebook. In fact, I have been forgoing a lot of sleep in order to meet all the necessity requirements :(
Hobbies I would like to take up - piano playing, photography and swimming but... those will have to wait until I have more of a life (after I am done school).
So, all the guys are rambling on about how women don't have hobbies but haven't mentioned what theirs are. I'd like to know for both proof that guys tend to have genuine hobbies more often than women, and just for interest sake (ideas of hobbies I can fantasize about having time to do some day.) |

I know this guy on a forum (and I'm pretty sure he is not alright in the head) that has very interesting hobbies. His hobbies are:
- highways (especially if they have shiny crash barriers)
- steep mountains
He ing raves about them all the time, taking pictures, comparing places, travels to see new highways/mountains etc.
It just seems the guys get into more extreme version of hobbies.
As for my hobbies, I guess it's producing music. I wouldn't call my reading, computer games, floorball games etc hobbies.
Oh forgot, I ing love space. I love to read and watch things about the universe. I would call that a hobby too. |

| I think the main difference is that men are much more likely to get geeky about a hobby. Another thing I think (and this is from the top of my head, so it could be bull) is that men seem to find more identity in their interests. A woman is more likely to treat a hobby as a pleasant pastime, seperate from her, where as a man will associate himself with his hobbies. They become an important part of who he is. |

Yea like I said, most girls I know or have met tend to rely on their significant others for all forms of entertainment or engagement. If I can find a girl totally into her own thing you know... I just haven't found any like that.
Actually one, but I didn't pursue... :p |
how old are you again? are you not worried about being a virgin all your life and not taking risks to actually enjoy living?
seems to me like you have to balls to do anything, maybe your mommy, daddy, child porn/hentai collection and computer equals fulfillment in your eyes.
and by the way, in order to find a girl you need to go out into society and talk to real girls, since probably the girls you know are counted with the palm of your hands. |

Also I am with JBJ on this one, all the girls I know seem to have general interests but nothing specifically that they are really in to.
Its part of the reason I don't even attempt to get a girl because I tend to be fairly obsessive about whatever I am into and if the other person isn't into it as much as I am I will lose interest in the person or just annoy them. |
Once you get into a relationship you will realise that they have often have absolutely nothing to do with sharing the same hobbies, irrespective of how obsessive you are as a person.
Besides, where are you going to find a girl who will play army men with you?

I find most girls do something once, call it a hobby and then don't stop bullting on about how it is so central to their life. It's usually something that they think is cool or has an alternative lifestyle attached to it, so they can tell others about it. Common examples are surfing, meditating, Buddhism, playing guitar/bass and being vegan/vegetarian.
This is not the same as a fad though. Fads are things you do more than once, but are short lived. I find girls are able to cling onto said "hobbies" for close to a decade, despite the fact that they haven't actually done them in years. Eg. go surfing once, but continually refer to oneself as "a surfer chick".
It is also common for such girls to strategically place hobby-related artifacts in high traffic areas. Eg. a surfboard leaning against the wall. |
What the kind of insecure women have you been hanging out with?

why has no one said furiously masturbating yet? or is this just a given, like breathing...... |
Ha ha, I love that expression. I might masturbate furiously tonight.

On the money as usual. |

Thats the thing, haha, I usually spend my time doing what I like, and if I am not doing what I like I get bored and frustrated... :p
Guess that just means I am a selfish , but oh well.
Beyond ArmA though, chicks into photography would do me good cause I need to get my ass out shooting more.
Also snowboarding...
Those two things are more realistic I guess than my other hobbies in finding someone who is into them. :p
Also playing army men, which really isnt waht it is, is part of my over all hobby of researching and gaining knowledge on large weapons systems and how they work and function. It helps you gain an understanding of war, which is half of life and half the world. It helps me understand things better in the long run. |

CD, why don't you go to school, do the ROTC thingy, major in something like Physics or Math so you won't get bored, finish up, and then you go into the Air Force or Army, whatever you signed up for in ROTC...
That would probably be perfect for you. And ride a bike to/fro classes and swim before lunch so you get fit.
:D |

sweet, so drinking really is a hobby. |

Plenty of women like photography and also snowboarding. Take it from there and word of advice, introduce them to ArmA only later on when the relationship is somewhat solid. There's nothing wrong with playing games as a hobby, but there is if it consumes your life. |

my bf was an avid WoW player when we first started dating. i think i only gave him for it a couple of times (when i was excited to watch a movie or something and insisted we watch it together and he stop playing for the night), but for the most part, i get it and don't complain. i spend enough time on here, it's the same .
honestly i encourage hobbies with my S.O. and any chick who doesn't, is a moron. the way i see it is... it's better than having some shady boyfriend who is always gone and not accounted for. at least i know he's safe and home:) |

Of course, it's just something that's better to bring up a bit into the relationship, not straight in.
I played Eve Online quite religiously for a couple of years. Had I had a girlfriend at the time, I'm sure she would have complained about it :stongue: |

dude i got my bf AND my roommate playing WoW in the livingroom (we all have our computer stations in different corners of the livingroom) and they'll be playing with their mics and volumes on with their other friends playing from home and they're all talking to each other in french and play for hours lol
it's like that episode of south park when they made fun of WoW players:stongue:
but to be honest, he doesn't play that much any more. in fact, he just cancelled his account because it's $30 a month being flushed down the toilet. his supra hobby took over i guess. |
