Question for the COR women (females and hobbies) (pg. 4)

I find most girls do something once, call it a hobby and then don't stop bullting on about how it is so central to their life. It's usually something that they think is cool or has an alternative lifestyle attached to it, so they can tell others about it. Common examples are surfing, meditating, Buddhism, playing guitar/bass and being vegan/vegetarian.

This is not the same as a fad though. Fads are things you do more than once, but are short lived. I find girls are able to cling onto said "hobbies" for close to a decade, despite the fact that they haven't actually done them in years. Eg. go surfing once, but continually refer to oneself as "a surfer chick".

It is also common for such girls to strategically place hobby-related artifacts in high traffic areas. Eg. a surfboard leaning against the wall.

Also I am with JBJ on this one, all the girls I know seem to have general interests but nothing specifically that they are really in to.

Yeah, I'm not saying girls don't have hobbies or interests at all, because they obviously do. It's just that they usually seem a lot less intense about them than the guys I know. And I basically never see girls who let some interest or hobby take over all their free time (which is often not a good thing, of course).

To put it positively, they have a better sense of balance and restraint when it comes to hobbies. :-D

Seeing as how this is a website almost entirely centred around a personal interest, I don't think this is a great place to ask this sort of thing.

I think that women seem less impelled for a few different reasons. Least of all the heritage of social pressure and traditionary conditioning though - there is a strong, evolutionary undercurrent that urges them to collect seed just as males feel impelled to plant it. This is pretty much everything, or so it seems. Things have changed a lot in the last 100 years, but they've also very much stayed quite the same. Also, the criteria us males take for granted is a standard unto which we judge who we feel to be our peers in virility/violence - not to mention the prescribed media image of what a male 'should' do with his life - why are we so seemingly hard-wired to hold females to this same standard? Seems a bit disjointed.

That crying little optimist in me wants to think that there are probably more 'smart' (or at least resourceful) females in the world than males though - social networks being the crux of this dynamic. This isn't to say anything good about females though, just that the drones of our species are clearly cut and more often than not destined to be nothing more than fertilzer (so to speak).

What the ? I bet you write great fluffy english essays.

I'm having a hard time disagreeing with this entirely. I think the internet has only made this worse for both sexes though because networking sites and profiles give organization to what are practically fabricated identities. Kind of like how people write "MUSIC IS MY LIFE" or something like that in their signature - even on TA! ing Frenchie did that all of the time. Music isn't your ing life, you stand in dank rooms and listen to some ing cunt play somebody else's ing music, how the hell can you actually think you appreciate music??? Wow, what a tangent, I'll be done.

flute - since I was 11

puzzles - usually with my bf on nights where we're not doing anything else, or with my dad over a few beers and some good conversation

long walks - by myself, with a girlfriend, with sister, or with the bf

reading - I'm always into at least 3 different books at once, and read whatever one I feel like at the time

my extra-curricular research project - top secret stuff :toocool: that I eventually plan to use as a groundwork for my PhD

I asked my gf about this and she sort of agreed, she said she thought girls usually have a greater number of hobbies but probably spent less time on each while guys tend to be obsessed with one thing. Just anecdotally this seems to be the case, it seems like if you ask girls their hobbies they tend to list at least three things, while guys will often list just one or maybe two, rarely more. I wonder if there have been any studies done on self-attributed number of hobbies...

Also it seems like guys rarely consider reading a hobby, even guys I know who read a lot would not list that one. Weird.

Yeah, I walk a lot, but walking is not a hobby.

I find that guys with small dicks will bone a chick once, and then brag to all of their buddies how the sex they have is so CENTRAL to their everyday routine - especially hers. She loves the cock.

This is not the same as being insecure though. THESE guys have disillusioned ideas of their own greatness. Ex. bang a chick once, but tell others "ya we're ing"

It is also common for such males to strategically place their cell phones so that others see text message from said girl - likely sent once during a momentary lapse in judgement.

i.e. that was sexist hogwash and you're probably gay
Halcyon+On+On
Well sexual potency is extremely important to males, that is why they brag. In fact, it's practically the reason for any sort of competition, you have to understand. Indeed, when he said something you disagreed with, you resorted to attacking his sexual orientation - why is that?
