Yeah, she agreed to pay for my cellphone while I was in school as long as I have over a 3.5. But, being a grandma, she doesn't understand why I can't just 'pick up the phone and call someone' instead of texting. So she had the feature turned off.

You will benefit in the end. Less development time for a device, less hassle because they will only have to support 1 standard at some point, as opposed to 2. |

when? |
Well the LTE network is lit, and will be available for consumers next year. It will start as data only, but they are going to be doing voice over LTE also. So figure in the next two years, there will start to be a transition to the new stuff, and within 5 years, CDMA will be legacy. |

It will still work. CDMA isn't going away for good for about 10 years. Verizon had their AMPS (analogue) stuff on till like 2003 I think. |

Well, it looks like I was REALLY close in approximate dates.
| quote: | | eWeek is reporting that Verizon Wireless told executive IT managers that they plan to launch LTE in 30 “NFL cities” by the end of 2010. The quote came from Verizon senior federal sales executive Bernie McMonagle. The executive did not detail which specific cities would be getting Verizon’s 4G service, but he did reiterate that they would be major metropolitan areas and that his company would have the entire country covered in LTE by 2013. Unfortunately, McMonagle also said that LTE smartphones, due to there scarcity, would not be launched in conjunction with the thirty city rollout. |
