Who are you to say that small, conscious changes in one's personal habits and choices don't count for anything?
Those who desperately want to keep their $200 designer jeans, their Club Monacos and their $3 lattes ("I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT -insert thing you probably could live without here- !!"), are the ones who will care the least that some 13-year old is working 12 hour days to make their clothes, or that some rural farmer is being granted a pittance compared to what they should really be earning, in order to shiny up a largely wasteful corporate image. But I'll betcha a dollar to a dime that these same people will probably also be the first to loudly whinge and complain as soon as someone comes to take all of those must-have things away from them.
If everyone had the capacity to make small, conscious changes ("Hmmm...maybe I'll look for recycled/gently used clothing the next time I go shopping! Hmmm...maybe from now on I'll buy direct trade coffee and brew it at home before I go to work, then transport it in a reuseable mug!") the world would be a much more balanced place. Instead, we've developed the tendency to live at the mercy of our impulses, fueled by corporate direction, giving little thought as to how our seemingly insignificant day-to-day activities have much further-reaching consequences than we could possibly imagine. |

There is only one thing that I think the protesters legitimatly have a good reason to protest over, and that is nobody ASKED Torontonians if they wanted the G20 to be hosted here, it was just kinda thrown at them, and it is one hell of an inconvience.
Anybody catch the press conference yesterday from the organized protesters?? Their spokesmen looked like Oren the Gold buyer from the commercial. Then leader of the lesbian coalition came on and basically said if you were white, male, and rich, and straight you were the devil incarnate, at which time CP24 cut her ass off the live feed. I'll stick with following my elected leaders thank you. |

I would say that a majority of those who will be protesting at the upcoming G20 will be doing so to stand up for what they believe is right. |
Disagree entirely.
The majority of the people protesting the G20 have no real idea what the real issues are (or how to impact them) and just look at this as a way to be a part of "something", which ultimately (via mob mentality) creates havoc.
These same people get their news via sound bites (Metro? 24?) and are easily influenced by the misinformation further stirred by the professional protesters (or "cause activists" as they like to call themselves).
These same "cause activists" are small in numbers, protest professionally (OCAP anybody?) and generally disregard law & order. Their objective is not to solve the problem, but to cause social disorder. These people are social-anarchists acting under the guise of some "cause".
Sorry, but if I am going to be a part of "something" it is not going to be standing around, holding a sign, smashing windows, blowing up banks, chanting, obstructing traffic...
I choose to be a part of something that actually IMPROVES the system (not imperils it). |

I didn't say that the causes for which they advocating are good or right, only that the majority of these protestors are doing what they believe is right. That is, it is not their main goal to hurt, harm and/or destroy (although that is what ends up happening a lot of the time).
As I said, there are a minority of these "activists" whose aims are purely destructive in nature. I disagree that you could make this statement for the majority. |

in other words, you've done all, sitting in your comfy home in Toronto, and you think you're making a 'difference' by preaching to us
i'd rather listen to people who think the same as you, but actually gone out to butt nowhere to help the poor, the sick and unfortunate. i may not agree with their views, but at least i know that they actually walk the talk and do what they preach, and have more credibility than people like you |

I totally agree on every count - these people seem to have the right agenda in mind, even though the execution can be poor
there will ALWAYS be the few violent meatheads who set everyone off
just because there are violent minority groups that associate themselves with anti-G20 groups, doesn't mean all anti-G20 groups are like that |
