If the city let the Tamils shut down that Gardner maybe we could use a similar tactic. Get all the women and children and put them at the front and then march to the convention centre. This plan is perfect.

Jayx, so you are saying that people shouldn't even protest against such global schemes as G20/G8/etc? Yes, lets just turn off the world and let those corrupt politicians decide everything for themselves and by themselves. They already have decided to give themselves ridiculous pay raises, lifetime benefits that most Canadians can only dream of, and abuse of taxpayer money on a large scale. They rarely speak for us anyway, but for corporatocracy and those with deep pockets. They only listen to the voter on the voting day. And they try to make it a long time between elections, i.e. less accountability and more time to run the political thrill. All of them are pletty much the same party, cause all politicans are pretty much the same and nothing changes. Often they pass laws which don't represent our beliefs, AND without consulting the people first.

We should question and/or scrutinize EVERYTHING politicians do, because they are doing everything possible to keep us out of their way. Those "designated" protests areas are a humiliation and disgrace to democracy and people's rights, concerns. They are playing their bureacratic games, competition for the best suit, all-expense-paid meals and trips, splitting the spoils and laying out schemes.

It makes me angry what they do. I worked co-op for the city bureacracy and I can tell you firsthand how much BULL they feed the public. They are lazy, overpaid, and instead hire students like me to do the heavy dirty work while they spend days in conferences and/or trips and take credit for our work. :whip:

Gradually we are losing our voice and our participation in Canadian politics. "Designated protest zone" is one of those examples.

I am against globalization and this G20 crap. It is merely the annual meeting of the world's richest and most powerful for no good reasons. Or can I call it a party or a get-together? What's on their mind - saving the planet? Or making more money? Globalization does not represent my core beliefs, or the beliefs of many people (billions of poor or exploited people) and the planet. I will never trust corporations, considering that money is their BOTTOM line, and it makes more sense that instead it is a generations-old drive for global power, more money and control, and at expense of someone somewhere. Corporations and G20 (who attend on behalf of corporations) have grown so powerful they influence world decisions. Corporations dont have feelings, they dont give a about you or the planet. Or else it will affect their market share. Some politicians are happy because this G20 thing, European Union, etc. brings us closer to One World Government. For centuries there were countless leaders who wanted to rule the whole world, and that opportunity is getting closer today.

Refer to Noam Chomsky for the details, he's the greatest intellectual who wrote extensively on the political lunacy of these corporate-driven monsters.

+1

One of the main contributing factors of global issues. It is not necessarily the notion of making a profit that is causing our economic and social problems but maybe the general public's gullible perception of these business entities, allowing them to trample over them. However , I cannot be certain that the notion of makeing a profit in itself does not have some innate qualities that lead to greed and corruption.

legitimate or not, I know one thing is for certain, 's going to go down this summer. Even if these hippies have a peaceful protest, there is always some troublemakers that will start .

Look at what they did in Vancouver during the Olympics, started smashing businesses on Robson street. Cause those business owners were to blame for whatever it was those retards were protesting about.

Now you guys mean to tell me these same retards should be allowed to congregate right next to the ground where all the world major political leaders are going to congregate, uh huh, good idea.

Not to mention the fact there are thousands of would be terrorists that would gladly give their brainwashed lives in order to get that close to the building merely to blown it and themselves up.

The security is there for a very good reason, so if some people have their "basic" rights infringed upon for the greater good of the country, then so be it. They are still being allowed to congregate, they are still practicingtheir right to free speech, but this is a world of ultra security measures and protectionism. They will NEVER be allowed anywhere near the meeting site, and with VERY good cause.

"Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.” Benjamin Franklin

Sentinal, you're the one who's brainwashed. Maybe you should do some research first about the issues before coming on a public board and calling people who are exercising their human rights "hippies". Having a "free speech" zone goes against the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Sounds like a libritarian arguement against G20 if I ever heard one.

Also a Libritarian.

Sentinal - you don't have a clue, read a book sometime instead of the Toronto Sun. Let's be honest, will go down at G20 but that will not vindicate your argument, look up the Black Bloc. Learn about their movement (ALSO Libritarians) and realize that they represent a very small minority of the anti-globalization movement. A minority who gets the most attention for their actions.
