I raised the same issue with the Vancouver Olympics protest, which was in a contained designated area.. ridiculous!

I'll be there protesting...what you may ask...well lets start with the following

IMF
Bank Bailouts
Carbon Tax
Global Government
Global Warming Lies
Obama and Harper

I know that I wont be able to change anything myself, but at least I'll be doing SOMETHING.

what im saying is that ive asked 2 people on here what the protest is about who plan on attending and neither have given me an answer. If that is indicative of the protest, it's pretty weak.

I doubt, and have always doubted that most of the people who go to these things really do understand what they are shouting about.

But its a free country, i dont think for a minute that they shouldnt be allowed to shout about (apparently) nothing. I dont have to agree with it though.

Man your logic is flawed. Attempting to draw a representative idea about the protesters from two people here, one of whom has truthfully admitted they don't know what it is about, just is not fair criticism.

You have built your perception of protesters on what interactions and experiences exactly?

You have put down Canadians as being too passive, and sheep, not willing to protest or stand up for what they believe in. Now when there is a large scale protest which has been organized, you say they have no direction. MMmm...cake.
----------------
From my understanding, there are a few different themes to protests against the G8/G20 meetings.
- the consolidation of wealth among the 'have' countries.
- the lack of action for positive change for the poor, less fortunate.
- some are just simply against capitalism, as an economic strategy.

There are others, but that is what I have noticed.

Me, I am pissed the off, that they are not holding this meeting in the Arctic, away from any real security threats, away from anybody. They are converging in the middle of the largest city in Canada, when there is no real logistical advantage. Especially not when compared with the coordination of security, and city services which will be impacted.

I'm just not sure how this makes you a "hippie" though? perhaps sentinal can answer that.

Please...

Do you think that these protests actually produce any results???

Canadians are a bunch of sheep because they don't have the balls to stand up for change in the effective but difficult way... BY VOTING FOR IT!!!

These stupid little protests accomplish nothing but give the mounted police something to do...

Actually, you're a hippie because it's much easier to label something as a way of marginalising and then dismissing it, rather than making an effort to gain an understanding of it.

Why dont you look up 4 posts and quote that? I said I know protesting doesnt change anything, but its fully in my right to voice my anger. Posting on forums wont get the message out.

Do you really think voting changes anything? go back to sleep.

This protest would be incredibly effective if:

- it carried a unified message (something along the lines of "government responsibility, accountability and transparency for the people the government claims to represent")

- it was absolutely peaceful in nature - anyone instigating violence on the side of the protestors should be removed immediately and handed over to the authorities

- the people exercise their right to Peaceful Assembly, by marching en masse to the site of the Summit, and not providing resistance should security retaliate in a violent manner

- the Summit allowed for the participation of an independent people's representative, someone permitted to be present at all meetings in order to be able to voice the chosen unified message to the other representatives

Unfortunately, you're more than a little correct in your assertion. Attempting to confine the protests to Trinity-Bellwoods will do little more than fan the flames of resentment among protestors, increasing the likelyhood of violence. However, sitting at home and doing nothing sends the message that your so-called elected officials are free to continue conducting business that will ultimately affect your way of life, behind closed doors, without you having any say in the matter whatsoever.
