I absolutely feel a sense of entitlement to citizenship...
31 years landed...
Every level of school here from grade 1 to college...
And I pay more in taxes than a lot of citizens earn...
I should not have to pay $200 and write some bull test....
But I know that that's the way it is and I have only myself to blame for not having jumped through these ridiculous hoops...
I'm gonna start the process....
Oh and citizenship makes it easier to travel which to me is more important than the vote... |

a lot of things have changed for landed immigrants/permanent residents as is - esp. in regards to health care, for example..
once again I didn't say I think I'm entitled, I said it would be great because of x, y and z (my length of stay here, received education, have a job + taxes, etc)
bringing in American example doesn't prove anything - their citizenship and immigration laws and regulations are different to ours |
It doesn't matter if they are different, the fact remains that for this argument it stands.
If you do away with the Laws of Citizenship, then whats the point of having Citizenships in the first place? |

dude! that's crazy! why didn't you apply the year you became eligible for it?! I'm counting down the months to Feb'11 already! :)
and yeah, travelling will be SO much easier! can't wait :) I'm so tired of all the visa forms I have to apply/fill out every time I'm going somewhere (at least US give out 10 year visas now) |

i cant wait till i can get my US passport. I will then be ridding myself of the canadian one (they expect you to pay taxes as a citizen even of you dont work or live here.... chew on that funky ;) )
Unless things drastically change here, this is my plan |

| The government will also give free flights back to Canada for its citizens in case of war in the country you live in. You pay for the flight back home though, as did almost everybody last time this happened. Having a Canadian passport is worth more for its convenience than its true meaning. It's great to be Canadian. |
