You do realize that streetcars have a higher capacity than buses, right? To replace streetcars with buses would take a hell of a lot of buses, and as such, even more congestion. |
How much more seating does a streetcar have compared to a bus?
There may be more buses on the street but it's not like every streetcar is at capacity 24/7 so there are only more buses during traffic time which is where all the congestion happens. During traffic when a streetcar stops it blocks both lanes of traffic, and often it'll be at a green light. So having traffic not move at all is counter productive compared to a few more buses that would pull over to the side of the road and let other traffic pass by.
How much is upkeep for street cars anyways? Maintenence, the tracks on the street, shoveling and de-thawing the tracks in winter, the wires on top? Buses use the same road that is paved and shoveled for everyone else. |

Mel Lastman built that line cause he's from North York and was North York's mayor before the amalgamation.
I've been saying this for a while, they need to build a subway station to Square One that would help relieve a lot of the traffic coming from the West like on the 403, 401, QEW, Lakeshore. |
I think if they do a Subway line from Square One it would relieve some congestion on those highways, but that is a pipedream.
I also think they need a Subway Line from Brampton that runs into the Airport into the downtown core, but that also will never happen, that will also relieve some congestion on the 410, 401, and 427 during rush hour. |

But I think I should be allowed to vote as well...
Not a big deal but it'd be nice... |

It'll be good to see things shaken up and he really couldn't do worse than past recent mayors... |
Care to wager on that one? ;)
I'm looking forward to the magic math show that will be Ford scrapping existing transit expansion plans and adding new subways, while at the same time drastically cutting taxes.
And today's headlines would read, "Rob Ford - Mayor of Etobicoke", if it hadn't been for Mike "I want the ing Indians out of the park" Harris' bullheaded amalgamation project. I would hardly call someone whose policies were so heavily opposed and still draw ire today our "best premier". |

| For those non-Torontonians and non-Ontarians, what kind of mayor will Rob Ford be? Is he highly conservative & old-school? Seems like he's all about slashing expenses and costs. Will your recent trend of ridiculous laws being passed continue in this fashion? Is he super-rightwing? I thought I saw someone compare him to Bush. |

NEWFLASH: FORD INVADES IRAQ!
LOL
The stupid laws passed were by anti business socialists and social engineers. Ironically it tends to be conservatives in canada that are the least intrusive when it comes to daily life.
In Canada "progressive thinking" tends to be "i know better than most of you and i will force you to do it my way." while conservative thinking tends to be "I'll leave you alone if you leave me alone" or "it's up to you to decide how you want to live"
And dont confuse conservative with christian because religion throws everything for a loop when it comes to thinking. Whether its christian, muslim, whatever. |
