i agree, but wormholes existing AND aliens mastering the art of wormhole manipulation can be represented by the equation, bollocks x bull = ing unlikely.
for all we know alien planets are filled with alien life like stu, crawling around on all fours taking dick in the arse. no time for wormhole manipulation when you're constantly dealing with cornhole dilation. |

Unlikely but not impossible. There's a big difference. |

Again, you can say the exact same thing about God.
| quote: | | Do I believe aliens exist? The probability is far too high for them not to, or at least not to have existed at some point in time. |
The probability of some form of life existing at some point in the universe is very high, but the probability of anthropomorphic life that not only physically and anatomically resembles humans but has a remarkably similar development of culture and language existing during the time frame of early human civilisation is so incredibly small that it's all but indistinguishable from impossible. And that's without factoring in the physical impossibilities of interstellar travel.
Anyone who believes in "ancient aliens" and smugly regards themselves as more logical and rational than Christians is an unbearably stupid wit. |

Perhaps you don't believe in them but simply because you cannot see past the mystic shroud does not mean the Ancients of Planet Falderal will ignore your lack of faith! |

Aliens at least will be bound by the same rules as the rest of us. They almost certainly emerged over a long period of evolution on whatever world they come from. One of the things we've discovered is that complexity is never a "start" for any process. It only arrives later in the game..emerging from much simpler beginnings. This is particularly the case when it comes to sentient beings. Everything we know about life and consciousness indicates that complexity is an end product. Christians and people of every other monotheistic faith however propose an infinitely wise and powerful as a STARTING point...a being capable of creating matter, energy, and entire universes by wishing them into existence..a creature capable of fine tuning the fundamental laws of nature..intervening at will to change those laws..one who knows everything happening..past, present, and future..including the thoughts of every life form on trillions of planets.. Whatever you want call this thing, "simple" is not a proper word.
Where did it come from? Nowhere. There is no conceivable explanation for how it came to exist. *POOF*, it was magic. Any way you slice it, the idea of a complex being like this serving as a starting point is much more unlikely than a complex alien culture that evolved billions of years after the big bang like we did. This necessarily makes theism more far-fetched than even the most wild alien conspiracy theories. |

A physical impossibility has a probability of 0. When calculating the probability of the Ancient Aliens theory, you end up multiplying by 0, giving Ancient Aliens a probability of 0.
There may one day by a scientific discovery that allows for interstellar travel. Equally there may be a scientific discovery that allows the existence of God. Until that day, the probability of both with the given information is 0. |

I do. Routinely.

Why do I get the impression that you both think I believe aliens visited Earth?
I don't, in case I didn't make that clear enough. I'm just making the point that existence of aliens is highly probable at some point in time, and their form could be from the smallest bacteria to the most advanced civilisation possible. It still doesn't mean they visited though, nor do I believe they did.
Is there a chance? Sure, but I really, really, really doubt any non-terrestrial life has been on this planet at any time. |

nah, i got what you were saying. i was just pointing out that there are 2 or 3 pretty HUGE conditions that must be met for interstellar travel to occur, and that the probability of ALL of them being met is pretty slim. |

I don't think you believe that, but you seem to be suggesting it's more likely than the existence of God. |

| What, the existence of aliens or the possibility of them visiting earth, or FTL travel? |

Only a brave or foolish man would deny the possibility flat out, regardless of their knowledge of physics.

Do I believe they visited us 2 to 4 thousand years ago? no. It doesn't make sense to get here and then just leave with no trace. |
i still reckon douglas adams was right, and we're descended from aliens who were fooled into exile and set on a crash course for earth because they were too annoying to remain on their home planet... :stongue: |
