It ing pisses me off that people can actually go around saying like this and actually think they're saying anything remotely subjective, let alone intelligent.
My PERSONAL view is I'm waiting for someone to find a new vision for uplifting trance - in the same way I'm slightly jaded by over salty, sugary and oil ridden chineese food - I want something new from Chinese food other than salt and oil.

This has ALWAYS been TA. It stemmed from MD which has, is and always will be a steaming pile of . There are good discussions every once in a while of course with decent posters, but buried amongst .

What makes MD a "steaming pile of ?"

You're not who I was referring to, no worries.

is all about chord progressions, but all the music tends to be the same, the key combinations that sound right aren't that much

Before starting the beat, introducing with a few ambient phrases. Airbase uses this for "Escape" for example.
Having the lead sequence short and repeating, while the bass and the pads behind changes key independently. Think Humate - Love Stimulation.
Slowly transiting from one mood to another, maybe even from one style to another, within one track, without the listener noticing, while also not being too repetitive.
It would be nice if we could go back to legitimate hooks.

I'll be honest the thing that attracted me to blueman wasn't even his melodies. The mans basslines is what initially attracted me to him. Same with Kandi and Nickey. He was just another talented artist imo who knew how make quality driving basslines. And after studying them/trying to create a similar sound month after month I realized pretty fastly that they are not easily recreated.
And if you think so then go ahead and make one yourself and show it to the board. They are articulate, clear, energetic, and layered intelligently. I see a lot of trance that just has the sub and I'm never impressed by them. I'm likely obsessed with running basses but a good one is not easy to make, and blueman spits them out left and right like its a joke to him. Seems some artists avoid them all together because they can't do it right. I know I'm just being bias but seriously, theres a lot more to his music than his epic melodies.
For all the people who dissed blueman in this thread, I'd really really like to see what you consider good trance music. Is it just anything w/out epic melodies? Because thats in lame. Whether or not you think they're easy, or that you know how the chords work, you can't do one yourself, just admit it. And a lot of other artists seem to cop out to the more minimal styled . So before this thread ends, I just wanted to say one more time blueman rocks.
And maybe aNYthing can enlighten us on what good trance is as he seemingly became the antiepic spokesperson for this thread. I'd really love to see what nonepic you listen to. Would probably put the whole forum to sleep.

It doesn't matter, someone who listens to primarily breakbeat or IDM would probably think Slipstream is absolutely dripping with emotion or something. It's just more than some people are used to which makes them think it's "too epic", whatever the flying that means
And yeah, God I wish I could make basses like Blueman, though I'm glad not everyone can replicate it. If they could imagine how many ty Blueman clones there'd be, haha. Andy never really mixed up the sounds his rolling basslines used and if people knew exactly what his technique was that really would be the end of unique basslines in uplifting trance. They're hard enough to find as it is.

Thats true you're right.
I think I was just waiting for someone to post a dubstep track so I could tear it to shreds than make fun of their mommy for not showing them what good music is.
But in all honesty I've seen someone tell Blueman directly on trancefix (and ctg too he'd get ) that his music was boring generic or something along the lines. And he said something like "if I started making music with the idea that I could please everybody than Id be in the wrong profession". And I also noticed just because he was posting at their forum, the majority of people would kiss his ass.
I wouldn't expect no different on this forum. When someones far outside your daily reality you tend to judge them with more scrutiny. And if he posted on this forum there'd be a lot of people likely trying to win his respect. People are generally fake like that. I could prob make a new account with his name and aNYthing would be the first person trying to befriend me.
Anyway yeh, it doesn't matter either way.

VDM - No Hasitation.
people have no clue what proper trance is but here it is. listen and learn.

I'm surprised Robby even knows of CTG :D. I used to be on there back in the day too.
Examples of what I do consider to be quality trance:
Vincent de Moor - Crystal Clouds
Chicane - Saltwater
Albert Vorne - Ares (Mac Zimms Remix)
Dreamcatcher - Don't wanna lose my way
Solid Sessions - Janeiro
@palm / ken_lee: Great post of a true trance classic.
Todays (uplifting) trance is just bland. It's heaps of the same but different. Probably a side-effect of it being rather popular. Pop hits are overly similar a lot of times too.
Nice to see how this discussion got out of hand. :)

As awesome as VDM - No Hesitation is, it's all subjective once again.
"Proper trance"? Give me a ing break. We've been having this debate for a decade now and it's got us nowhere.
