Andy Blueman throws in the towel for trance (pg. 6)

It seems like every "experienced" producer in here has a knack for bashing people who have blown up in some way and refering to their music as "generic" or what they do for a living as something a 5 year old could do.
No matter what, its always mostly negative degrading bs. I've heard your own work mystery, and if blueman is "generic tripe" your music is the maggots that feed off my as it rots in the summer heat. And DJ Rann, I know you do this for a living, I respect your opinions on so many things in this forum, but sometimes you come off entirely too negative/paranoid. Even to allude to the idea that Blueman stole some idea from your boss sounds preposterous. And you saying that just seems like you're trying to give your own boss (and yourself) a perceptual boost in the music world.
I know you're a smart , and I know mystery and richie and lolo all have these seasoned esoteric views of what "quality" means. But a lot of you sound more bitter than anything. Not lolo he always seems to temper his posts with a bit of optimism. What is SO HARD about giving another man credit? I barely even see an effort at all in that regards. But I always see an effort to on people who are established. |

It's amazing to me that something as simple as one artist, who doesn't even post here AFAIK, can blog about something as seemingly inconsequential and boring as changing styles and ignite this kind of reaction.
That said, I'm not trying to be cool, but I'm really not familiar with Blueman either, other than in name and probably having heard some of his stuff at some point. So, maybe I'm missing the importance of this, in which case please feel free to enlighten me as to how relevant his announcement is to the EDM industry/scene as a whole. I guess I'm just lacking some perspective here. |

I agree cryo and that would have been the "normal" way for this thread to go.
1) Andy Blueman made a blog that he's not doing trance anymore.
Responses: That sucks I liked him
or: I didn't know him but its normal for artists to do that.
INSTEAD on TA we get
1) Andy Blueman made a blog that he's not doing trance anymore.
Responses: Who? Who the is this and how dare he make a blog that concieted !! Maybe I should make a blog too.
or: BOO!!! His music sucks!! Trance sucks! The world is coming to an end May 12, 2011 blame blueman for it!
> His musics not bad my favorite song is x
> That song sucks!! Wheres the "pulse"? He's a loser and trance blows blah blah
> Percussions more important than melodies..
> NO melodies more important than percussion..
> I'm posting just to let you all know that I don't know blueman
> You're cool
> No I'm not
> Hey guys I don't know blueman either!
> Yeh me too this thread sucks, Kysora needs to go clubbin and drop E. Maybe then he'll know what good trance sounds like.
Its really just a disease of egos it seems. People here are extremely unagreeable, and everyone wants to seem like they have a voice and in order to do so are always trying to prove the other person wrong or degrade their point of view. This thread got off topic the second ken_lee had to post his irrelevant philosophies about bloggin (which was like the 3rd post) and everyone else after that seemed to jump on the bangwagon.
I'm farrr from perfect but its really funny to watch how quickly things escalate on this forum. |

I think you're being far too cynical. While I care little for Bluemans trance tunes, I respect the guy for moving on when his love for this music has died, when he could so easily churn out countless more tunes over the next few years, cashing in on his established name, getting plenty of DJ gigs etc etc. |
Well maybe he has just lost his passion, but he's obviously attempted some score work and frankly, when you see the sort of pay that is involved for even one small or medium budget scoring gig it will make a struggling trance producer seriously question their direction, especially if money is a consideration for their art. That's why I have my suspicions.....
And let's get real here - it's not as if he's been producing in the golden age of trance or something - and frankly I can't name a single track or classic that he's produced.
So maybe I am a little cynical and in fairness I don't really listen to much trance at all but I think this is all a bit if a storm in a teacup. Good on him if anything, there's nothing worse than doing something you hate just because you can't find a way out....to many big names have done that and it shows.... |

@kit, you're not totally wrong, but not having an education is the extreme exception to the rule. For a start very few places will give you a foot in the door (getting tea) without a degree in music composition or similar |
Degrees in music are just like degrees in anything else. Does having one help you to start out and get jobs? Absolutely, but it's not an absolute necessity. If you're good, you're good, and only a fool would not hire you. |

Tiesto's magik 6 is what got me in to trance. Seeing him play Silence live in 2000 was a defining moment in my life.
I haven't been regularly going to clubs for the past couple of years but I still enjoy trance, and some of the new artists like Gareth Emery etc.
I really have no idea where this thread is going :) |

I never gave you the school stuff. I'm a big supporter of getting a degree to help you in your career. , I'm doing postgrad next year for gods sake.
But...if you turned up somewhere with 10 years experience in a relevant field, without a degree, you think any decent recruiters would give a ? They would not. If they do, you don't want to work there anyway. |
