...so this is the worst thing that could happen because there is the presumed potential of subsequent events occurring beyond their control that you have trepidation over.

Right.

a monkey with half a brain could have seen this leading to the current situations. Things are going to get much worse before they get better....if they get better.

Then look at Egypt. The people have taken to the streets, and taken the state in their own hands. They are directly controlling the direction they want their country to go in.

It's entirely unjustified fear mongering. 2 weeks of constant protesting and the only violence that came was from mubarak's thugs.

They want a fairly governed country which will give better living standards. I haven't heard anyone mention anything about relgious rule.

A theocracy requires a strong religious leader, so far we have seen none. At least give something to work with instead of vague speculation and dismal statistics.

FAIL

I hate to say "I told you so"... actually I don't, because naiveté is best eradicated by learning the hard way. Looks like the Muslim Brotherhood, once a banned organization in Egypt because of their radical Islamist ways, has succeeded in using the "useful idiot" youth (in true Lenin fashion) as a means to the end we all should have seen coming.

Via today's New York Times (all quotes below from same article):

quote:
"ISLAMIST GROUP IS A RISING FORCE IN EGYPT"

In post-revolutionary Egypt, where hope and confusion collide in the daily struggle to build a new nation, religion has emerged as a powerful political force, following an uprising that was based on secular ideals. The Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group once banned by the state, is at the forefront, transformed into a tacit partner with the military government that many fear will thwart fundamental changes.

It is also clear that the young, educated secular activists who initially propelled the nonideological revolution are no longer the driving political force.

Get it? The "people" are no longer in charge. What's worse? Evidently the Muslim Brotherhood already worked out a deal with the Military for joint control before hand... right around the time they were saying they just wanted a seat at the table and "to be heard". We were told we didn't have to worry about the MB because the military would "control" them. Suckers.
quote:
“There is evidence the Brotherhood struck some kind of a deal with the military early on,” said Elijah Zarwan, a senior analyst with the International Crisis Group. “It makes sense if you are the military — you want stability and people off the street. The Brotherhood is one address where you can go to get 100,000 people off the street.”

And the result? Sadly predictable... at least by those of us who can read between the lines:
quote:
“We are all worried,” said Amr Koura, 55, a television producer, reflecting the opinions of the secular minority. “The young people have no control of the revolution anymore. It was evident in the last few weeks when you saw a lot of bearded people taking charge. The youth are gone.”

ing fantastic.

quote:
On Wednesday, the council endorsed a plan to outlaw demonstrations and sit-ins. Then, a few hours later, the public prosecutor announced that the former interior minister and other security officials would be charged in the killings of hundreds during the protests.

Does this sound like the direction of Democracy? Protests and sit-ins are now illegal? Sounds like your garden variety dictatorship... except it no longer leans secular.

ing great... we just had to support ousting Mubarak immediately for the betterment of a Democratic uprising. Our situation with Egypt as a supremely important ally in the region is now on the path to deterioration. Should we not have seen this coming after revelations that females who showed up to protest in Tahrir Square were detained by the Egyptian military and given "virginity" tests!?

Should it not have been obvious how this was going to turn out when 60 Minutes/CBS reporter Lara Logan was swarmed by animals in Tahrir Square during celebrations of Mubarak's ouster, screaming "JEW! JEW!" at her (she's not Jewish), then tearing all her clothes off and repeatedly raping her? What a disgrace this has turned in to. Nrg2Nfinit, what was that about unjustified fear mongering again?

you told me what?

the muslim brotherhood has always been a large opposition party, this was known. We won't see anything yet until elections. Remember, the democratic elections that the people strived for. You think that will all be forgotten while the western world just sits there and attacks libya? I think you are the naive one here that doesn't understand the big picture and are still swayed by the useless fear mongering. Isolated incidents that occured in protests with over a million people and not 1 suicide bomber or religious "jihad" attack.

The only way this is going to work is if the people get to vote. There is no "chance". People are people, no matter what their race ethnicity, religion (albeit relgion is the dumbest thing) or culture. Thats what freedom is about. There is no chance/collective punishment etc. Each person is responsible for his or hers own action. You cannot gather all the jews and gas them because they are hoarding the german wealth; you cannot jail all blacks because a few are prone to theivery, rape, drugs and toonie tuesdays at kfc; you cannot take away a whole countires freedom because of a couple of islolated incidents and a fear that democratic elections "may" not go the way you wanted.

You believe in the free markets, why not a free people? I don't understand what you mean when you say "see i told you so?" as if there was actually another feasible alternative to have a government that wasn't selected by the people of that country. Pathetic.

Is "freedom" just meant for you and I and not the rest of the world? Then Hitler should have gased all the jews, would have put more money in the german peoples pocket.

Completely riduculous argument with absolutley no viable thesis kevin.
