See "Iran" circa 1979 compared to today. |
I get what you are saying believe me. Iran in 1979 is not exactly the same as what we have in Egypt today. Egypt does not have another leader waiting to take over the country. Iran already had Khomeini waiting to take over the country as soon as the Shah left. At this point it is not clear that Egypt will end up having a government like Iran. These are all assumptions. |

I'm all for democracy but not at any price. Like I said in the other thread.....this protest may have gone peacefully but I wouldn't expect the same peaceful protesting in other countries that will decide to take matters into their own hands in order to overturn a government. |
...so this is the worst thing that could happen because there is the presumed potential of subsequent events occurring beyond their control that you have trepidation over.
Right. |

Oh yeah baby! I see democracy and improved relations with the U.S. in Egypt's future!
In conclusion....

I mean, this says it all. The knee-jerk romanticizing of this being fabulously fabulous for what we perceive to be the ushering in of freedom and democracy is so foolish. |
Sweet! A completely random poll with absolutely no basis in reality! Fearmongering ftw :D |

It is a very different situation. People are posting ignorant things based on invalid information and generalizing stereotypes. We just had a guy post that no one in the country had cellphones (sorry to single you out lews).
Did you guys know that bas' family still lives in pyramids?
Indians are the original inhabitants in north America because we still think that Christopher Columbus landed in India. |

In order to restart your country successfully, please organise a new government and make sure they don't install yet another dictatorship. Because, you know, that'd suck! |
Fixed. |
