Biggest challenge

Plant operator TEPCO has had a rocky past in an industry plagued by scandal. In 2002, the president of the country's largest power utility was forced to resign along with four other senior executives, taking responsibility for suspected falsification of nuclear plant safety records.

Many Japanese flooded social networking sites with worries about the plant.

"I can't trust TEPCO," said a person with the handlename Tanuki Atsushi on mixi, the Japanese social networking site.

The second I started hearing reports of them dumping Boron and measured elevated (!!!) levels of Caesium, it's pretty evident that a meltdown wasn't just imminent.. It was off and running like a righteous hot mad bastard.

That being said, they'd better get that under control because if aftershocks hit and somehow ignite fires or rupture the reactor or christ only knows what.. Well.. Yeah. Not pretty.

Look at that helicopter get vaporized within seconds @ Chernobyl

If memory serves, that was a Soviet emergency decontamination team whose helicopter blades hit a crane whilst dumping a lead and Boron mixture onto the exposed reactor core. There's should still be a memorial to the 4 crew members that were killed just outside the visitor's centre.

The car speeding off :nervous: I hope those people got to higher ground in time.

What is really scary is that the majority of these people had zero idea of just how dangerous the radiation levels were. I've done a lot of reading on the subject but the prospect of living through something like this is just absolutely horrifying.

Yes sir

Good news from my friend in Japan, one of the reactors (maybe no. 3) got the cooling system back up and running.

One more to go, come on Japan!!!!

"1st one pumping water in via firehose system"

"meters measuring water level not working/not showing correct numbers"

"explosion of the hydrogen that has probably built up, but that should only blow off the top of the roof like the other one"

"water levels are well over required for one of them, the other one is low, but pressure is looking good"

"all in all, continuing water pumping and things are looking ok"

Woke up to those msgs this morning
