SOFTBANK donates 10 Billion Yen

Softbank already stepped up to the plate by offering gratis handsets to earthquake orphans following the horrific events that transpired last month, but now the outfit's CEO is doing one better. ¥10 billion will be leaving Masayoshi Son (admittedly deep) pockets in order to "support the region and people affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami," and if you're curious, that equates to just under $120 million in greenbacks. Of course, one might say that said sum is pocket change for Japan's wealthiest citizen, but he even vowed to "donate to the same cause all of his future compensation as the head of Softbank." On top of Son's personal donations, Softbank as a company will be handing over ¥1 billion, with both the man and his entity considering various channels for which the money will be distributed. We've got a feeling this is just a bit more serious than your average PR stunt, and we've no qualms handing Mr. Son the round of golf claps he so richly deserves.

TEPCO officials should be ing shot by now, they do nothing and continue dumping hazardous waste into sea and feed lies to population, while latter one might be ok considering the panic that might happen yet the former is inexcusable.

During the Chernobyl plant officials were struggling to source liquid nitrogen and deliver it to plant (to cool down) so they received a call from "above" saying that if they wouldn't take care of the problem all of them would be shot dead next day. I do not see anything moving in right direction until hard hand will come upon them. Call me insensitive to poor officials but i say Japanese population had enough of this , they will have to live with this for many more decades so the faster they bury this thing in millions of tons of concrete the better.

Not even gonna mention the impact on sea-fishing this nuclear fiasco will have in Asia and possibly even West Coast. Sushi industry is going down the drain as well, although we might not see impact for few years.

I agree. They dumped water into the ocean now and believe me they will do it again since they have to get rid of all that contaminated water somehow. I love how the media is playing this down, on CNN they were like: "well the amount of water they dumped into the sea is the equivalent of 5 swimming pools so nothing to fear here". People have got to wake up and not let yet another corporation to destroy our ocean.
These people are just too greedy and don’t want to let go of their investments and they don’t seem to care much about the consequences as long as they don’t lose money. ing pathetic.

I wouldn't ^5 the Soviet officials in any way - they sent firefighters, militia and plant workes to shovel hazardous waste with nothing more then syrgical masks and firemen's gear. They pretty much just dumped bodies in there, and never told the nearby population about what's going on. So that was a bit of a poor example..

There's ing Green Peace when you need them?
Let's go save couple whales, yep it's a big deal.
Dumping tonnes of radioactive water in the ocean? Who cares, it's all good.

i'm not endorsing this type of action though all i'm saying is that TEPCO officials do nothing but put on a "cry/we're sorry" show for media and then do nothing but spray sea-water on top of melting reactors.

They have been warned against spraying sea water as it only leads to disintegration yet thats all what they do and then they dump this seawater from reactors trenches back into sea. There is solution and its called liquid nitrogen in which you use it to cool down the reactor, do a clean up meanwhile and prepare pooring concrete on top.

Also i say Japanese politicians are weak in this case as well, heads should be flying for this mess left and right. Minister of energy, and all Tepco board should be changed with criminal negligence and be thrown to Fukushima for few days to help cleaning. Maybe i'm overreacting but it hurts to see how much the whole country is suffering just because a bunch of idiots decided that they can operate this plant safely for another 10 years (just over a month ago) pretty much on a belief that they can.

My heart truly goes out to all the workers who are there on the ground trying to do whatever the incompetent Tepco officials are telling them to do and losing their health and ultimately experiencing slow death.

all those workers will be dead within few weeks/months, i don't think we will even find out about it.

I've had a big argument about it with funky crew and vdub and srussel, they claimed some weeks back that everyone is safe based on a website report. Right now as it seems there radiation levels within 10km are 100 times higher than normal level + radiation is being dumped in the ocean.

our argument was not about radiation levels in the ocean - the discussion was during the time when all media outlets were going nuts that there will be big explosions
more so, the report re: status of the nuclear reactors changes every day - I don't think you've been following what he's been writing?
discussions about what was back 2 weeks ago are a bit irrelevent atm, since the radiation is being physically dumped into the sea, following the officials' orders

^ ^ This. In reality, the Soviets didn't even acknowledge the incident until it was setting off radiation alarms in f*cking NORWAY.

How is it irrelevant, wasn't i talking about the same ? it is leaking everywhere, not just the ocean.
media outlets were going crazy because of the reports of radiation. like i already said - Now radiation levels are 100 times higher normal levels in 10KM range, close to the plant it is 10000 times higher(according to official reports). You were saying there is nothing to worry about, what do you say now?

It's irrelevent because I just explained why - we were discussing different dangers, not the ocean/soil radiation levels.
I never said "there is nothing to worry about", good one there Gera. I love generalizations like that. I questioned the media frenzy about possible reactor explosions - I was sceptical because media outlets are known to overhype news.
