Complete freedom of speech is much more important than not hurting peoples feelings...
I know it's offensive Kris but they have the right to say it and you have the right to not read it...

I was 2 years old, so I don't know hell of a lot - it's not far from where we lived at a time, and since grandpa was part of the local KGB division, we were warned earlier then majority of the local population
I can ask my mom more, but I missed the chance to ask grandpa more questions about what he was told at the time because he died in 97
I just remember my mom telling me that we had the acid rain that day, which killed of our grapes and burned holes in umbrellas

I can't google since I don't really know what I'm looking for but wasn't an change to the amendment, to exclude hurtful speech, stuff like racial and homophobic slurs? or am I mixing up with European laws? |

In principle, I get where you're coming from, because I've been wrestling with this question: why should people have the right to not be subjected to physical harm, but not mental abuse? If the intent can be proven, such as the more obvious and clear-cut racial and homophobic venom that is spewed, why should you still be able to take an insult on the chin and have to walk away, but not a punch on the chin? I'm struggling to reconcile the difference. |

First of all, grapes in Belarus? I don't think so.
Second, winds were blowing north, north-west after accident, so it was mostly Poland, Scandinavia and north-west parts of CCCP which got most of fallout in next few days.
I was 17 at a time and remember most of it, as it was happening in Leningrad.
There was news about it on TV and people were warned about dangers, but, please, holes burned in umbrellas?
Sounds a bit overblown, doesn't it?
Misska and the rest of russian speaking ppl on TA could read this, actual writings of the guy, who was involved in Chernobyl disaster. Unfortunately it's in russian only.

Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was in the Ukrainian SSR (now Ukraine)
we had wild grapes growing on the window of our ground floor apartment which we used for shade in the summer time
chto ty mne rasskazyvaesh chto bylo? I just said we had the rain in my city! we had neighbours running in to get home, the rain was acidic yellow

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic but he was a world war 2 hero.. his service at the KGB began a bit later on |
