this thread is absurd. I was there for this set and he had the crowd jumping up and down and going INSANE the entire set, myself included. Hate on vocal tracks all you want, but whenever they are played(and yes including in the main room at cream amensia in ibiza, the mecca of trance) EVERYONE sings along and goes crazy
one of the best things about gareth's set was he actually dj'd. he didn't just let a playlist rip, he gave songs just the right amount of playtime. this was the best set i've ever heard and i love pure trance as much as anyone, a great PvD set with one vocal track every 2 hours puts me in heaven.
just cause it has words doesn't make it cheese. what is supposed to be the point of music at a live show? to put you in a state of complete euphoria and facilitate having the time of your life. well guess what, this is never more apparent than when a great vocal track is played. even more so in ibiza than anywhere else, when a vocal track comes on and I don't know the words I find myself looking around and being one of the only ones in the room who isn't singing. I guess the next response is going to tell me that Cream has been invaded by "kids"(all 5000 of them each night) who don't understand real trance and are ruining the genre. gimme a fking break |

people will jump around because the majority of people attending asot 500/umf like that kind of stuff.
if you're into his style, you will love it.
a few years ago i would have loved his set, but i've grown apart from it. |

and so do the people who go to amnesia in ibiza. you are implying that those people who attend ultra are somehow not real trance fans(ya i mean the 50k people attend from all over the country, not real fans! lol). then who are the real trance fans, where do they go? they just completely skip out on ibiza and every other huge music festival in the world? surely ibiza is the true hardcore crowd and they LOVE all that vocal stuff.

obviously, but most in this thread are implying that the only ones into his style are some kind of fake trance fans but it just so happens the vast vast majority enjoys this(or should I say literally 99% in the crowd of thousands, apparently the only ones who didn't are in this thread), so its fine to not enjoy it just respect it

please tell me where I was incorrect. surely it wasn't about the reaction at ultra, i was there, surely it wasn't about the reaction in ibiza, i was there multiple times this past season. |

You're right. I don't dare argue with twance #1 aficionado who obviously is more experienced because of being to Ibiza multiple times and that's the #1 capital of the world to twance out at. tranceforeva son! Ya dig?
BTW, that set still sucked. |

have you had a different experience? i don't get the elitist attitude. it's pretty simple, you have a bunch of people claiming anyone who likes the vocal stuff is fake, not a true fan, whatever but in my experience i've never seen a room not go crazy over a good vocal track. thats all im offering here.
the reason I bring up ibiza is because I don't think anyone would think it's full of "fake" fans. sure you can argue ultra is full of "fake" fans and i'm sure that means you've talked to more than 10 of the 50,000 people there and know their level of knowledge/experience and can therefore generalize the entire crowd |

In my opinion, it's extremely hard to get into a "state of trance" with vocals being played over and over. Very few vocal songs are true trance, if any. Vocals mean lyrics, and lyrics mean thinking, and thinking means you are not in a "state of trance."
Vocals can be uplifting, energetic and great -- but I personally think most vocal songs preclude you from "trancing the out," especially when there's hundreds of people around you singing along to it with their ty ass voices. Great atmosphere maybe, lots of energy maybe, but not trance. That's why I prefer my sets to have like 1/5th or less of vocals. A vocal song once in a while is great for the atmosphere and energy, but repeated use kills it in my opinion.
My 2 cents. |

very well said. even though, for me personally, I disagree with the last part.

Don't get too bent out of shape on this forum. I've been around here for quite a while, mainly lurking (and I was an avid reader for a while before actually creating an account) and it's very apparent that these forums have a lot of very opinionated people who talk down to others that have different musical tastes. It can be pretty elitist.
It's always kinda bugged me to be honest. :p
But I keep coming back because while they may be opinionated and at times rude (probably because forums are anonymous so it's easier to be a dick), they mean well and honestly if we're here, we're huge fans of EDM and typically know what we're talking about. That's what I love about the TA forums - people are so passionate about this music that it often creates debates and arguments; I'm not dissing people when I say this - I'm just as passionate about my music tastes. :)
Like anything, peoples' tastes change over time - including mine - and while some people bashing Gareth in this thread may hate the style of this particular set, they may have loved it 5 or even 10 years ago.
Everyone's different, and debating it is pretty pointless in the end. If you love the music, awesome! If you don't, well, that's unfortunate but it's not really necessary to bash people who do. |
