All these DJs the past 18 months have just gone overkill on the vocals. I tried listening to Cosmic Gates set from Beyond Wonderland, wtf? That isn't the Cosmic Gate sound. I remember seeing Cosmic Gate back in March 09 and they never played the they do now.

Vocal trance turns off alot of the original fans, and that's a true shame

This is true. Although I disagree with the Cosmic statement. They've been playing the same ass sets basically for a while now. They change tracks though from a new remix of one of their productions (sounds the same basically) and then play whatever tracks are the biggest to "so called trance fans".

Vocals bring in the more mainstream crowd. They need vocals so that they can follow the music better. As far as expecting a lot from Gareth and a lot of the big names, people have to stop.

Then again look at a lot of the "trance fans" on here. They get off to all the vocal trance producers/djs more then anyone. People are always excited to see Cosmic on a lineup I can't figure it out. Is it because their vocal tracks are so well known, so they actually know a song or three during their set? idk?

People also seem to hate on Simons type of style. God forbid you listen to something faster then 135..... I mean really. How can people say that it sounds like the same thing over and over, yet they like other EDM artists? At least come up with a good reason... lol. I say keep banging it out at 140 and let the pussies disappear.

Smaller producers > big names. Majority of the good tracks played by the big djs are from the "small names" (small if you don't follow trance, or have your head up your ass). I mean come on, if the big producers/djs didn't jam their own tracks down our throats and circle jerk/promote the out of each other then they wouldn't be awesome tracks or tracks of the year.

geeze, so much hate :) i love it all, cheesy vocal and hard trance alike. i do like a li'l more variety in a set than that last Gareth one, though...he is part of a much longer production and i'm sure the vocal stuff is what *sells* best...armin's show being basically an advertisment.
LAdazeNYnights
ewwwww glad i only tuned in for armin haha

pretty bad tracklist, half of me wants to give the guy a break though (the other half not because this is a pretty 'big deal' event)

he needs a vacation, he's been hitting it a bit too hard too fast

question to you trance guys (as I am not that familiar with trance):

Would you say that this is the beginning of Gareth "selling out" for the big bucks now?

other then simon and tyas, what djs are still keeping it "real"?
jonmitz
i wouldnt rush to a 'sell out' conclusion

he needs some time off to reformulate and rethink his sets/style. if he doesnt do this, then totally he's just doing it for the money

this kind of tracklist is a big change from a year, two, and three+ ago

i loathe everything ASOT (my reasosns for not listening to ASOT are the fact that you have to wait 6 months to get the tracks he plays, IMO absurd), so i'm not taking this set too seriously personally.. maybe im out of touch... :|

I'd honestly say Gareth started "selling out" over a year ago. His Northern Lights album was a huge disappointment in my opinion. He's definitely following in the path of Armin.

Markus has dedicated this year to getting back to being "real" with his next Dakota album (Thoughts Become Things 2). But he really isn't trance anymore. Half of his songs might be trance at best? He's incorporated a lot of house / techno sounds into his sets and style. He's definitely made an effort to get away from vocal/poppy sounds (though there will still be the occasional one in his set, which is actually kinda nice in my opinion). He'll also be the first one to say he isn't necessarily a trance DJ, just a DJ who plays some trance.

But overall...the trance scene is really bad now. I personally blame producers/DJs like Aly & Fila and Dash Berlin. Too many people want to make that next vocal anthem or that next reach for the sky uplifting tune. Nobody wants to make "trance" with real emotion anymore.

i also agree that markus doesn't really play that much trance anymore, which i prefer because honestly i'm not too into the aly & fila, jorn van deynhoven, etc style of trance.
