question to you trance guys (as I am not that familiar with trance):
Would you say that this is the beginning of Gareth "selling out" for the big bucks now?
other then simon and tyas, what djs are still keeping it "real"? |
1) I don't blame for selling out.... Make that money I guesss?
2) I would say that the selling out started before this, but it hasn't got to bad yet. I understand this is a big event thats on radio and what not, so he obviously did this for promotion. Wouldn't call him a sell out though
As far as Producers/DJ's that I believe are keeping it real.... Bryan Kearney, Greg Downey (yes he did a remix that got huge on aussy radio) and Activa are a few.......
And when/if they start producing and playing 80% vocals in their sets then I'll talk about them too. With this being said of course they do play some vocals, but not NEARLY as much. Vocals aren't bad if they aren't dropped routinely throughout a set. |

Yeah but most people who are there to enjoy the music would want some harder stuff. Simon Patterson and CL throw down the best sets these days, everyone else has started playing too much cheesy that has turned me off from trance lately.
Vocal trance turns off alot of the original fans, and that's a true shame |
I like a wide range of trance even the vocal stuff (yes I know), but even I admit that Gareth's set was pretty dire. I've liked his sets in the past and it surprises me that he would want to be remembered for this because when you think about it, ASOT500 was supposed to be a big deal.
I have also been getting into Christopher Lawrence lately, more so than anyone else. Will check out Simon Patterson if he's similiar because there's not many djs who play that those harder sets. |

i kinda correlate how long someone has been listening to edm to how much they love vocals..
it's crazy the amount of #asot500 hashtags on twitter have people just eating up every track that is vocals.. but if u look at some of these people's profile.. they are REALLY young or just really new to the scene...which is fine (even my own newbie friends LOVE IT.. i sometimes cringe a bit lol)
i think the longer u been listening to edm..the more you expand your horizons into different music whether it be something harder and less vocals or totally diff like minimal/techno
i think it just cycles a bit.. im sure a lot of us use to be big dj mystik fans =P |

long time fan of TRANCE, and The Gareth Emery set is pretty damn good.. Vocals and all! There was nothing 'horrible' about the set..
Anyway, that's just my opinion.. |
