yep. say what you want about his productions, the man absolutely rips it live :D
+1 Was one of my favorite sets of my weekend in Miami. The Carl Cox and Friends tent had some pretty good ones Friday and Saturday, but although I only caught the last 2 sets when it switched to the ASOT500 tent, I've heard most of the rest were pretty disappointing aside from SvD.

I've been defending him as of late because I really enjoyed his recent sets is NY @ Cielo but for this... I have no defense! Sorry Gareth, you went a tad too far... (just a tad ;) :p )

Been listening to trance since 1994 (like who really cares right). I have to admit, this thing about house and techno is annoying cause the masses act like its the new thing and OMG I'm outta date. But to me, I walked away from house and techno 12 years ago (just too simplistic for me). I don't determine trance's golden years because of Tiesto, oakenfold, or any other big artist.. for me the golden years are still here.. I just wait for those tracks from the unknown and upcoming artist.
I also think that o'bir and SP are very good.
Each genre borrows from each other. There are proggy House tracks that have trance elements even without 135+bpm. visa versa...
I hate unicorns too.

System-7 probably actually knows what I'm talking about, but someone who thinks Jon O'Bir and Simon Patterson are good beacons of trance greatness doesn't deserve an extended response. Normally I would write a longer paragraph further explaining your complete lack of anything resembling intelligence, but I'm a bit tired from my weekend in Miami. Why don't you go download Gareth Emery's set from Ultra and then try to dig your head out of your ass and realize that trance, like many genres, had its golden years, and those years are long gone.

I'm just saying that what many people consider trance these days doesn't really fit the bill. As the OP pointed out, the garbage that people like GE spin pretty regularly is like electronic radio pop music, not trance. It used to be that you didn't have to wade through a bunch of to find a halfway decent trance tune, but it's been so watered down and commercialized that it's nauseating what's flooding Beatport and the likes being passed off as trance.

The definition of trance, which is not well-defined to begin with, can change over time too.

50 minutes in and I like the set so far. I have heard many of the songs before, but there are remixes and mashups that I haven't heard. Overall, I think the set would sound pretty good live, especially for a general audience.
I guess I suck. :)

I'm 36 minutes in and haven't heard anything that would make me call him horrible. Sounds ok. Nothing special. Lots of vocals for sure. Think he dropped a bunch of new remixes/mashups. Trainspotters might give a .
