I guess I suck. :)

+1 I was starting to feel left out, I mean all these anti Gareth Emery comments over a festival set is ridiculous. It might not work for the people seating around their PC at home, but I bet most of the people talking now, would probably be having a great time if they were at the party.

When will you realize you are not 95% of the community? The is obviously a huge demand for trance! I haven't seen many other events or artists trend on Twitter. Or what about these events that have the largest audiences in EDM, and are all trance?
You, and other people on here are just so damn sure they are 100% right, and their opinion is the only thing that matters....

Would you say that this is the beginning of Gareth "selling out" for the big bucks now?

other then simon and tyas, what djs are still keeping it "real"?

Gareth is my favorite artist, and i haven't listened to this set yet. But it looks like it is way too packed with cheese. I love cheese! Simon is amazing, i have never seen him, but like his tracks! But as for fast beats, i don't care for a beat that never stops and is just too pounding. It's just not my style. For me, it reminds me of too early n the morning, when everyone is coming off of something.

i think the longer u been listening to edm..the more you expand your horizons into different music whether it be something harder and less vocals or totally diff like minimal/techno

I have been listening to EDM (including D&B, Hardcore/gabber/happycore, some house, some electro, etc.) for going on 13 years i guess. I strongly prefer trance still. Nothing else has grown on me. I have grown more towards tech trance in the past year, but i still love me some good vocals.

"Sell out" is a phrase that gets thrown around a lot on this forum. It implies that a DJ/producer is not being authentic for the sake of making more money. If GE (or Armin or Tiesto, etc.) truly enjoys the music he is creating, that may disappoint you but that doesn't make him a sell out.

How do GE or Armin or Tiesto really feel inside about their music? Maybe they are making artistic compromises in order to make themselves more marketable. It doesn't really matter to me as a patron because I always can move on and find another DJ that plays a style of music that I like. I loved "Elements of Life" but hated "Kaleidoscope" so I follow Tiesto less often.

WELL SAID, thank you for being open minded. If you don't like it, that means someone else will.

As long as the house fans are willing to admit that their genre is more of a "sellout" genre than any other EDM genre. Do we really need to name names, then argue if they count as house?

The definition of trance, which is not well-defined to begin with, can change over time too.

New genre, pop-trance!

But why do we argue that it used to be so much better? How old are all of you? Ever consider that "rock" is different, Hip-hop/rap is different, country, classical, etc etc etc... ALL different. You are all just dating yourselves. Wake up and realize that you don't have to tell someone that they are retarded for liking something just because it's different than when you were young.
Should be say pop-hip-hop? Or pop-rock for everything just cuz it doesn't sound like your version of what "trance" is?

ANYWAY, no one listens to me and make fun of me cuz i'm just pushing against the few hard headed house fan that think they are superior, while the trance fans just shake their head and ignore it like i should.

Oh, srussell0018, one more thought: using big words doesn't make you right.

Rather "epic". Sounded like Myon & Shane54 lol. Did get a little tiresome. Maybe 3 of those tracks at most could have been worked into the set. While I do like vocals I'm not big on mashups/remixes. But it is ASOT 500 party and you would have to expect tons of epic, vocal tracks.

GE certainly knew his audience well. His ASOT 500 set certainly did not turn me off from seeing him in the future.

I don't see how this set could be considered "horrible" unless someone didn't like ASOT-type EDM to begin with.

Anyone remember the interview a few years back?

GARETH EMERY: 95% OF TRANCE IS CHEESY BOLLOCKS
http://www.trackitdown.net/news/show/100368.html

seems he loves cheesy bollocks now. sad when someone gives up what they love for money.

he needs to come back to tracks like GTR - Mistral

I've never understood why threads like this reach 7 pages. Sure his set was cheesey, but for crying out loud, if you don't like an artist fine, but don't try to force your opinions down other throats. Thats the great thing about music, there's something out there for everyone, if you don't like it, don't listen.

And the whole "selling out" thing has gotten so old, people will throw it around whenever they feel an artist is rising in popularity. You're not special, or the first one to make comments like this, so you're really not contributing anything meaningful to the discussion.

No one is forcing anyone to listen to this set, nor are they forcing you to go see him at clubs or massives. If you have a problem with it fine, but this thread really accomplishes nothing, other than the same repeating the same gibberish that you can find in any other thread, regarding almost every other top dj.

Im starting to wonder if some of you are on gareths payroll? thats the only way you could be defending him cos that set was diabolical. it was vocal overload and the constant mashups were horrendous.

I love these kind of threads. Keeps the forum interesting :)

I make a big deal out of GE's horrible sets because he used to be a huge ing star in the rising. He had a very distinct, unique sound and ing destroyed dance floors. Now he plays the same over and over and vocal loads the out of his sets. 3 years ago, I thought he was going to be the next big thing in "trance." He certainly avoided that distinction though.

More power to you who still like his sets, but the guy was easily one of the best DJs and producers in my opinion 2-3 years ago and well on his way to being the best, and now for the last 1-1.5 years, he's been on repeat making me cringe.
