I don't think my opinion would differ. Like I said, I'm glad this event turned out as well as it appears to have, and its certainly a historic moment for EDM in Toronto.
The reason that I say it's a bit of a stretch for comparison (IMO), is because the 90's rave scene here was a unique cultural movement that was comprised of many different facets coming together for a common purpose. However, I see this deadmau5 show more as an example of the level of commercialism that surrounds electonica these days. If that makes sense....
Not trying to take anything away from the show. Kudos to him for going big and pulling it off, and from what I've heard everyone had a blast and the vibe was great. Just apples and oranges for me.

ahh fair enough. Gotcha. I see what you mean and yes it's true. The 'movement' behind it was different.
p.s. before I post my own video, here's a sweet HD rip someone made of the LiveFeed/Live Broadcast from the Skydome/Rogers Centre. Enjoy!
SIKKKK!!!!
Awesome!

At first this line seems impressive and kind of sad at the same time but it's sort of misleading since the Roger's center isn't really known for concerts compared to a venue like the ACC for example.
Skydome is bigger though, innit?
(biggest indoor venue in the city?)

Yes it is. Does anybody know how many people were in attendance for this event?
I would have loved to check this out. It was my little sister's first edm event and she said she was amazed by the performance.

Faxing Berlin is still my fav. Deadmau5 track as well. I remember the first time I saw him at a venue called Budo Lounge. There were probably 20 ppl there. One of my most memorable parties, just because he was still really under the radar. It really was incredible to see how popular he became, and how quickly too. He's a very gifted individual! Here's a pic of him, from back at that party. I think it was in '07. Notice the marketing of the Mau5 even then! lol
this is dope, check out how he had branding proper right from the very beginning... wild

the current dance music renaissance happening in pop culture right now could definitely be a "movement"... I especially see it running parallel with the technology sphere/social media buzz exploding right now... that might be a big of a stretch, but regardless, dismissing it as a "movement" because of it's commercial success is a mistake imo

I'd say more like 25-30k, but who knows. We'll have to wait for the official release.

Fair points.
I'd personally differentiate them though, as I think electonica in pop culture is more of a trend (albeit commercially viable), as opposed to a sustained movement. 90's rave culture had P.L.U.R as its driving force and ethos, not sure what this new generation has...

partying, get drunk/ed up/trying to get laid? instead of at a top40 club, they just do it at EDM events
