ahh fair enough. Gotcha. I see what you mean and yes it's true. The 'movement' behind it was different.
p.s. before I post my own video, here's a sweet HD rip someone made of the LiveFeed/Live Broadcast from the Skydome/Rogers Centre. Enjoy!
SIKKKK!!!!

I was disappointed last time I saw Deadmau5 but from the videos I've seen from this event, it looks like he put on a really good show. Hopefully this means well see more Epic shows in the near future.

From an unbiased point of view (at best) I appreciate what he has done for the scene regardless of what direction he has taken in his productions (electro/dubstep/commercial/pop etc). The shear magnitude of a crowd that large in a place like Toronto is stunning. I don't think I ever imagined EDM coming back THIS strong.
Since we KNOW there are thousands of people out there that are new to the sounds of Deadmau5 and the likes and because they are virgins to many of the sounds of the past I can see a major resurgence in past genres that now seem defunct (i.e Progressive, Tribal). I really believe its necessary for upcoming artists to develop an "image" before they try to target their specific sound. Deadmau5 was a champ at this with his branding and he managed to turn heads with his initial Progressive offerings and then later focusing HIS sound in his productions when he garnered some popularity.
Time will tell as to what will happen because I am convinced the "dubstep" sound is just a premature sound of what is to come for the future. IMO Deadmau5' electro sound was the catalyst to this whole dubstep movement. Sounds like he is incorporating it into his shows now as well.
All in all I am unbelievably happy to see new venues poppping up like Downsview as I never thought we would get out of this bubble of holding major headliners at Guv every weekend.

CBC TV "The National" had a short segment today on Deadmau5.
Might repeat again tonight on TV, and available as latest program on WWW for another half day or so at the link below, probably still available later if you click around for the Nov 6 program.
Nov 6 2011, about 5 minutes long starting at 35 minutes into 46 minute program.

Mau5 was to be interviewed by the CBC Radio "Q" program's Jian Ghomeshi over a year ago but that seemed to get cancelled AFAIK, probably due to travel conflicts. Ghomeshi is a pretty good interviewer of music people, although he seems to have the most respect for very conventional rock bands (like he was in).

I'm sorry to say this is nothing more then a concert like any rock band does at Rogers Center. This was not a rave or even close to a rave. It was a pop music concert.

You are right...but the type of music is the difference.
Let's compare to say Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, or Prodigy.
Prodigy - kool haus
Daft Punk - convention center by the air port
Chemical brother - hockey arena in Mississauga (2001!)
Underworld - Kool Haus
Traditionally, they have been the biggest electronic bands over the last 15 years, and none of them could make the finances work to fill the Sky Dome.

Love him or hate him, the electronic scene needs big acts like Deadmau5 to bring new blood into it.
For some people, they will only stick to this guy / other people in a similar sound and then jump to the next big trend/artist when Deadmau5 stops being cool, but for other people - it can spark their interest in EDM as a whole, and act as a starting point for them to look into other genres/etc.
Not a big fan of his sound, but props to the guy for getting as big as he is - pulling in 20k+ people to a EDM event is pretty impressive, even if it was more of a 'Rock Show/Pop Concert' than a 'rave' - But coudn't you say the same thing for the Daft Punk show a year or two ago, which so many people gushed over.

Your right, it was a concert but since when has any EDM event in Canada reached the status to become a concert? Orko also hits the nail on the head; those artists in the past have held "concerts" but nothing even remotely close to the paramount of people in which Deadmau5 attracts.
For the most part I can't stand the majority of his productions, but I can't deny that this guy has become a massive influence to our scene and is now paving the way for EDM' future. Suffice to say, this may or may not be a good thing depending on which way you look at it but someone has to be a leader and he is riding the top of that mountain pretty well. I'll take the Mau5 over Guetta or ANY dubstep music any day of the week.
People may look back in another 10 years and say "he was a pioneer of his time" for his innovative A/V productions and for being one of the few artists to bring EDM to a level it has never reached before: publicly accepted. He is and continues to be leaps and bounds ahead of people with his A/V performance and always seems to have new branding tricks up his sleeve. Personally I would take an Eric Prydz' EPIC performance over Mau5 simply because I am biased towards the music but from what I have seen Mau5 was the first to put on such an intense A/V production and it sure as hell looks cool!

I definitely give props to him for being able to become as big as he is....you have to work hard to get to his level.
I honestly don't believe the EDM world will see a huge influx of people coming into its scene because of him. He appeals to the same people that Lady GaGa, David Guetta, etc appeals to. You may have a handful of people who will check out EDM clubs but I don't believe a lot of them will continue to search out other EDM genres or artists.
Euphorica
Its a pretty impressive site regardless of everything else...even if its more commercial poppy crap .
mau5 original tunes are definitely my fav of his though. by far.
I was gonna head down last minute but opted not to sit in the 100 level(lame)
