i believe that true function is the best form.
i'm not a fashionista, but i know what works for me.
Merrell makes outstanding footgear.
5.11 started as a climbing gear company long ago, got involved with mil and then LE. tier-one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_(climbing)
Carhartt has been construction-grade wear forever. luv their jeans.
TNF was pure expedition gear long ago, i guess a movie star wore their stuff and it got all trendy. still top notch. ruck-sacks, fart-sacks, outerwear.
Black Diamond is great, still somewhat specialized.
http://www.arcteryx.com/Product.aspx?EN/Mens is top-notch too, but a tad pricey considering.
