this shouldnt have been so bad if you had worn some ear plugs. i heard his set on asot 550 and the bass was also ridiculous. That's how I learned my lesson |

Extremely disappointing. There was no flow to the set, just a bunch of commercial-sounding vocal tracks thrown in together without much thought. The sound system was HORRIBLE, probably one of the worst I have ever listened to. The acoustics were completely unbalanced, I could only hear the bass and it was overpowering to the extent that it hurt my ears. The light show was mediocre at best, not worthy of a $200 GA event. Pretty bad investment unless you were drunk out of your mind (which most people were) and went there just to grind against random people. |
I actually have to say the opposite. In the beginning, yes there was a lot of commercial vocal tracks, but then again the crowd wasn't filled to the brim with people looking for trance tracks from 2000. He played right on the edge for me from being perfect trance to being commercial. Once crowd filtered out, (I'd like to say around 1 AM), and those who remained were actually there to see Armin, is where he brought out the bangers.
In terms of audio, I had a nice position right in front of a beam where the acoustics sounded brilliant. Granted, I was wearing my etymotic research ear plugs but it was one of the better mixed shows I've heard. I've learned that if you aren't happy with the sound you've got to move around as some of the people who mix these shows look at the board and are like "What two inputs? This will be easy!" As such, they don't move around the arena making sure it sounds good universally. You've either got to be in front of the sound board or find another sweet spot. If it still doesn't sound good there, they're just being lazy. Best example is when I went to see Kaskade and then Eric Prydz at Roseland. Same sound system. For Kaskade, it was probably the worst thing I've ever heard. For Eric Prydz, it was beautiful and anytime there was a spike, I saw the guys jump at the board to control it.
BTW, crowd has been the best I've seen in a while. I didn't feel like I was trapped amongst kiddies who were just there to roll face like at EDC NY or E Zoo.
And to be clear Joonbug sucked! Unless its another Armin show, I will never be going to another extremely unorganized event.
TLDR: I thought it was fantastic and it's what you make of it really. |

Compared to the other Armin shows I saw this year (EDC, Ezoo and one in DC), this was by far his best set. He played some classics, it was nice to hear Beautiful Ashes mashup, a remix of Netherworld, Communication, and Tuvan (haven't heard that in a few years). Also compared to those other shows, the crowd here was better as long as you found a spot with room. At times the bass definitely seemed too loud, I noticed it most during Waiting, I could barely hear the vocals.
As Stanswi said, I agree that this event was poorly organized. I had VIP, which was so clutch for skipping the ridiculous GA entrance and coat-check lines, but the stage was really far away from the VIP mezzanine, and the sound up there was even worse.
Overall, I went to the show with low expectations because of the last few Armin shows I went to, but left very pleased. |

| I thought the night went quite well actually. Yeah he did play some of the expected songs.. but yes I still danced to them. Overall what do you expect. Like someone else said, we all know what Armin is fully capable of. My full thoughts are going to be on EDMtunes today. Will follow up with the link to read my review.. :) |

yeah it doesn't get much better than that when it comes to classic trance! |
That prob would have been the only track I liked in his whole set lol
I went to a party at my friends place. We had a great turnout despite all the events going on AND some people went to Armin and were actually already back at the party with us by 1AM. Did not hear great things.... |

eh.
to be honest, i was more disappointed in the party itself than armin. a 4 hour NYE armin party has quite a bit of potential and it didn't really live up to it.
armin's set - exactly what expected so i wasn't upset. it was a good NYE set for a crowd full of everything: trance fans, trouse fans, noobs, bandwagoners, etc. first two hours were year mix as expected, last 2 hours were a bit better. he played some bangin' tunes - specifically stress test. damn, that song is insane. but then we are here to make some noise at midnight? /le sigh
as mentioned - the sound was a joke. that individually ruined the party for me. i tried dancing in 3 different spots of the room and nothing. WOBBLE WOBBLE. i barely heard the melodies. not even exaggerating, i didn't know when one track was over and another started. layout of the stage and stuff was dumb too. pier 94 is so much better. i actually now hope they have ASOT600 there.
getting in took 45 minutes - i thought they were delaying to screw people from the open bar. turned out just fine - i got in at 9:15 (open bar was 9 to 12). gave the bartender on the back left a $20 tip to start with and he hooked it up all night. was giving me strong ass redbull vodkas (theyre supposed to charge you a few bucks for the redbull) for no charge and gave me the can with whatever red bull was left. i went later on at night after the open bar and he kept giving me free beers and waters. probably the highlight of my night lol.
crowd was eh. 21+ helped but NYE is still amateur hour. i dont get how people can spend the entire night just moving around, walking back and forth. JUST ING PICK A SPOT AND DANCE IN IT. and the people who do dance, jump around like morons and take up 10x as much room as i do. i thought i was maybe being full of with that.. but after being at luciano for hours on end and having people respect my space, dance their asses off and enjoy the music.. yeah. thats the way it should be.
if the party was $100, i would of been satisfied. for $175, i expected more with the setup/production. whatevs. |

I can't agree with this more. It sucks when people keep trying to walk into or out of the crowd, particularly annoying when something good is being played. I have found it isn't as bad if you're dancing with a girl, but when I am alone I feel like I am the go-to person for people trying to get out of the crowd. |

still find it hard to believe people payed 300 bucks to see this guy
and not only was the majority of his set commercial/trouse
but the venue, sound, staff etc etc was sub par as well
dunno who the promoter was but iam sure they are happy now |
