Yeah, I sort of agree but:

There was a series of Star Wars books that a lot of people liked called "Thrawn" or something like that, and they were set after Return of The Jedi. Thrawn was an Imperial Admiral or something who had no force powers (I think) but was devious, smart and ambitious and was apparently an excellent new bad guy.

What I'm hoping is that perhaps General what's his name from Force Awakens and Snoke turn out to be something similar to this dude in the books so that the tone of the movie moves slightly away from a bad guy with magic force powers and towards a bad guy that's just smart and ruthless instead of Kylo Ren and his daddy issues.

I would be satisfied if Kylo Ren continues to be easily influenced and used entirely as a pawn by that Snoke dude. (Yeah Darth Vader was sort of the same with Palpatine but hey...)

General Hux would do all that. :o

edit: I predict a showdown/battle for power and approval between Hux and Ren. I haven't really read much more than page 3 of this thread, I hope nobody's suggested this already. :/

:o
Alex

Redpillers are a subset of nerds: the ones filled with impotent rage at the women who rejected them.

Yes, they were known as the Thrawn Trilogy and were the first set of books ever released that continued the Star Wars saga. Thrawn was an intelligent humanoid sentient with red eyes and bluish skin who was in control of one of the many factions of the Empire that were still at war with the New Republic. I found it a little odd in the new movie that the Empire's First Order had become so powerful that there didn't seem to be any system of government in place to combat them, whereas in most of the books, it's the Empire that's broken up and weakened, and therefore have to come up with even more cunning plans in order to beat the New Republic or at least hurt them.

If there was any character from the books that I wished were put into the new movies though, it would be Mara Jade. She was first featured in the Thrawn trilogy as "The Emperor's Hand," a deadly assassin who was so secret most Imperials didn't even know of her existence. She wanted to kill Luke so badly for destroying her life but ended up allying up with him and would also make cameos in future novels. I always thought it would be badass for a strong neutral good/evil female character that could go either way, cause even further tension and strife for both sides, rather than just keep it strictly good vs evil.

so, enjoyed it a LOT more the second time. i noticed the copy-paste plots/scenes less this time around and just went along for the ride. han's death still kills me and despite his son's epic sookiness, i think the scene is up there with yoda's and vader's demises. though i always used to cry during those, so maybe im the epic sook :D

Alex
Cool. I hope to see it again as well.

Was just thinking that I agree with whoever posted about the lameness of another death star, but at least compared to A New Hope the use of the new death star felt a lot more like an atrocity to me.
