Kodi ftw. I'm not signing up to some private tracker server and or paying a monthly for IKS. that.

Eh, like upload bad bitrate copies of your music? Seems like a bad monetary strategy to me. Then again, we got more chance of suing someone for copyright infringement than getting paid by a label.

Inner child = wants to go this weekend. Old man = says gtfo my lawn with your cos play light saber battles in the theater lobby. :(

Just got back from seeing it. A generous 7/10.

Yeah, it seems the critics on the whole are giving favourable reviews.

Why generous, did they really play it too safe?

I gather from the trailers the story has nothing to do with the New Jedi Order series books. Still expecting a good one though, I think they learned from the prequels.

Don't forget, although Lucas said he made the last three films first because the technological effects weren't ready to tell the first stories, a lot of industry people have said that it was also because the a new hope, ROTJ and ESB were the better stories and for the studio to take such a big gamble on a high budget production they needed it to be a big hit. Essentially the decided that the other films would do OK once the franchise had recognition.

I really liked it, although it really is sorta just a re-tread of A New Hope.

I'm really into the characters though, and I'm excited to see where they take it. I love Kylo Ren as a villain, personally.

Generous because I'm giving points mostly for technical proficiency. Visually it's amazing and things like cinematography, editing, set and costume design are largely unfaultable. But as a story it's deeply average. I could do my normal thing of griping about the plot but my biggest disappointment was the direction they chose to go. The first half did some tantalising world-building but as the film goes on it becomes apparent the filmmakers had no new ideas at all. Ultimately it's like listening to a very polished cover version of a classic band.

This seems to be the consensus of the majority of the mostly "spoiler-free" reviews I've read (Ars Technica, Blu-ray.com, High Def Digest, etc.). Although this means it could have been better, it gives me comfort that most folks are indicating it wasn't a total cluster , like it perhaps could have been (e.g, prequels). :)
