Then we agree to disagree. Nothing wrong with having said acid/acid house was dead some years ago - because it was. Now it's not. Why do we have to be politically correct here? Compared to earlier years, trance has become much more of a niche genre (somewhat like acid, perhaps). You can't go out now in NYC and easily find a trance party, if at all, these days. Before you could. Hence, it's relatively dead. |

Something doesn't need to be complicated to be effective. Do you make your girlfriend recite the philosophies of Socrates every night or is it possible for you just to enjoy her company? See what I'm saying? You're going to end up rather miserable if you demand everything in your life to be complex lest it be dismissed as effortless garbage, and honestly I get the vibe that you and the smurf fetishist up there aren't the happiest people around.
As for that thread, I'm just saying that really doesn't do it for me; I find that particular genre to be very easy listening and I have seen DJs attempt to play it before and watched places clear out because of it whereas I see oldschool trance, funky house & hard techno don't have much trouble getting the place active. In my experience that genre just doesn't work if you're trying to spin at a dance club. That's why I gave some examples of more hypnotic tracks that I believe fit the overall mood while maintaining effectiveness in that setting. There are of course niche crowds for everything but I was speaking from my personal experience and I made that very clear. It doesn't matter where someone is from. You're far too obsessed with regions and borders. Not everything is so rigid, especially when it comes to something as broad as music. Just because someone is from or isn't from a specific location doesn't mean they've got great or poor taste or are a great or poor DJ.
The reason trance is 'dead' (and I will give you that because as someone who actively looks to help distribute trance music from unknowns, I have a very difficult time finding anything made with the traditional sound) is because of 2 reasons that I see: One reason is the artists, who build music off uninspired templates and can't master a track to save their life. The other reason is listeners like yourself who will constantly try (and with some success) to force the idea that trance is a thing of the past by proclaiming DJs who play trance and artists who make it are outdated and stupid.
Trance is frankly an easily accessible genre and could very well make a comeback if only it weren't for those aforementioned things.
Perhaps it's a futile effort, but I can try to bring the classic sound back by mixing it and producing it and you and the smurfette can sit on this forum circlejerking and being hostile. To each other own. |
