yea i wasn't too impressed with his performance this time. maybe too much pvd in too short a time? dunno. wasn't feeling much of his set. that big chunk of boringness from 4-5:30ish literally had me standing in the back with this blank look on my face. sure there was some techno and some decent breaks (the silencer i think?) but i woulda preferred a lil' more trance. i left around 6ish, maybe he picked it up even more?
my highlights:
the children's mix, forget the name.
ralphi b - massive
hydra - affinity
4strings - let it rain.
unknown vocal (yea the one he played twice. somebody ing id!)
as usual, nice seeing familiar faces again, even for a short time. :p hope y'all had fun! |

I think the set was pretty good. I liked it better than his Feb performance at Roxy. but hey, what do i know? I'm just a tranceaddict in training. This is my first post (technically I've been reading the boards for more than a year). but anyway...the set was kind of out of the ordinary, thats one of the reasons i liked it so much. I have a question for people who were there. What's the song with the male vocal that goes "...and I am always on your mind" ? he played it in Feb too. I'm sure my opinion doesnt mean much, but i figured its about time i posted...later.

It didn't feel like his best performance, but I still enjoyed it
Maybe we've been spoiled
Maybe it was because I came early, but the line situation seemed to be much better, at least for ticket holders
Looks like they used 2 entrances, so some people (I guess who did will call) entered the club from the back.
Place was packed, but less than before.
Someone with me came in at around 1:30 and said there was almost no wait.
The breaks and house that he played between 4:30 and 5:30 seemed a little boring to some, but variety is often good
Maybe it was to give the crowd a chance to rest up for the bombs to be dropped later
Things did get better after 6 am
He played Butterfly near the end
This was the 9th out of the past 10 nights that he has played, so perhaps he was a little tired
One more to go in Orlando, since unfortunately the Toronto gig was cancelled due to concerns about SARS
Same for some gigs in Asia in late May
I don't know when, but he'll be back in NYC soon enough, to make up for this night. |

| Anyone know the second to last song that he spun? It was an ambient/break beat type track that Paul closed out with at Arc in November. |

I dunno about everyone else - But I had a great time. I got there around 10 mintues before he started playing which was cool. Allrite, so this is the 5th time I've seen him, and the 3rd 6 hour set that I've seen him play in the last 2 months. I put this set at the bottom of the three 6 hour ones that I saw - But that definaly doesn't mean that I didn't think that it was good heh. His set @ Space in Miami was the best for me. But this was definaly worth the trip down to New York for - The signing was a great bonus too - I ended up going around twice just so I could get more stuff signed since they were only allowing one item only :p I butsted out one more thing right when I was in front of him (A blown up picutre of me and him=) and he made a face like "woah" then smiled and signed it too heh :D I didn't see as many TA's as I thought I was, but it's all good I guess (For those of you I saw, it was cool seeing you all again, and it was cool finally got to meet Phazon - I actually just bumped into him randomly heh :D) After the signing I just ended up getting a hotel room and just chilled there and relaxed untill the show. All in all, a pretty great day/night :D

Yes I like this song a lot too - It's actally Paul's own Rework or Re-edit that he plays (I'm not sure which one it is, and honestly I don't even know the difference between Rework and Re-edit anyways) :stongue: |

i don't know what you people are all complaining about... that was one of the best PvD sets I've heard... after last weeks fluff at Ferry I needed something hard and PvD delivered...
a full review... let's see... Roxy and Made really got it together this time... I got there at about 11:30 and much to my surprise there were two lines... for ticket holders and non... Saw Daniela, Brianna, and Tom on line and joined them.. thanks guys... was inside within 5 minutes ... The place wasn't too crowded... especially after about 4... by 6 the whole place was half empty... seems like a lot of people maybe weren't feeling the style and decided to leave but I thought it was awesome and there was damn good energy throughout the night... lots of hands in the air.. PvD was energetic too... jumping around waving his arms... all that stuff he loves doing when he's really into it...
the music, in my opinion, was awesome... so many big beats... forget all that uplifting fluff... he did breaks for a while.. it was awesome... R. File - Thinking into PvD - Nothing But You (Cirrus Mix) into some other breakbeat into Silencer's Rolling 'n' Controlling... Those songs destroyed me... what else did he play? Aircrash Bureau - Don`t Expect Me to Forget You(Antiloop Mix), Schatrax - Misspent Years (Silicon Soul Darkroom Dub), an awesome Iio - Rapture breakbeat remix, and PvD reworks... Underworld - Born Slippy (wow), Space Brothers - Everywhere I go, Sound De-zign - Happiness... and lots of PvD tracks... both old and new... including some stuff from the Zurdo soundtrack in the encore...
I know all of you would have liked to hear more of the regular uplifting pvd stuff, but I thought it was great he kept that stuff to a minimum... if you weren't there and you can handle a little divergence from the standard fluff that dominates this place, you would have had a great time.... |

For some reason I did not even feel like posting a review?
I am glad to see that I am not the only one disappointed with last night. I have been mulling it over in my mind all day..trying to put my finger on the exact reason. I mean, PvD DID throw down some great tracks, including some classics that were awesome to hear (i.e. children) but I think I FELT his exhaustion through the speakers. It seemed like the tracks were missing that little flair that I have come to associate with PvD.
He played the unknown "Your mama's alright" song that I have yet to ID since last november. Also 4 Strings - Let it Rain, which surprised me. Michelle Nicol - Time was played and I swear i heard PUNK?? (Tom?) But, overall, it was my least favorite PvD set ever.
A lot of TAs were around but it seemed like people were all over the club in twos and threes so socializing wasn't as easy as it has been in the past. Personally, I missed the HELL of out Arturo. PvD isn't the same without f0x bringing up the energy levels! Also..John, Greg, Cubie, Arty, Missy, TASO (ffs!), Isaac ...damn there were so many absentees!
Nice meeting Danny B Good (decibel08), TranceEdifice (sp?) BabyTek, Rory, Erin (Tranceyes22), Stringfelowhawk, etc etc.
Always nice to see the regs: Caryn, Brian , Liz the bday girl, Tek, Wallflower, Arnold, Tom, Alex, Lisa, Daniela.....oh you all know who you are.
I hate posting a negative review. I think it's all John/Pyro's fault. He jinxed me! LOL. I guess I'll see what happens at MayDay. |

| i had a great time seeing everyone (you guys know who you are), as for pvds set... it was a dissapointment. the only tracks that made me go mental were i feel you and velvet morning. the cirrus mix of nothing but you was nice and i also liked that madonna mix of music. i left at 6:30 instead of staying till 8:00 because the set was just boring the crap out of me :\. other than that, last night was fun. ill post some pics soon, i didn't take too many though. |
