I would dare say that with a lot of practice and original ideas for mixing, any emerging DJ (and there are lots of them) can raise his performance to the level of Oakenfold -- and maybe surpass him.
Don't flame me for saying this, but there is a limit to what you can do with mixing -- you can't move MUCH beyond the fading in/out formula, although I agree that your mixing can be original and inspired. But anyone, with a good determination and practice, can achieve that -- or come pretty close.
If your stuff is beatmatched perfectly (easy to do nowadays, especially with MP3 mixers -- I don't remember whether it was Sasha or Digweed, but one of them actually mixed some GU CD with an MP3 mixer, and everybody thought they were really spinning vinyl!), and if it's not too dysharmonic, then yes, people will love it and say "it's mixed perfectly" -- of course it's perfect! If it happens to be Oakenfold a lot, and he's in the media, then yeah they'll eat whatever he puts out and praise him. It's not THAT hard to beatmix...
I may be wrong, because I haven't heard a lot of stuff mixed by Oakenfold. Having said that, try to see my main point here...
Now, about PvD... I respect Paul van Dyk because he comes up with *original albums*. I respect him as a prolific songwriter and a musician. And, in general, I respect musicians, more than I respect DJ's, because it is *they* who write the music that DJ's spin, while all the fame goes to the DJ's. Can you compare Oakenfold's occasional remixes to PvD's songwriting career? |

| i understand what are you saying. in general oakey is good too! i think they are both good! it all depends on how you like the djs. so my vote is pvd for energy and paul oakenfold for mixing and tiesto for producing not as a dj cause he sucks! i downloded a lot of is sets and they seem the same. so i think he sucks! |

i feel u eugene....every word u said was tru....but i think tranceport is definately one of the best album made these days. but i have to agree that oakenfold is no longer the lord of the trance.
i have been a big TIESTO fan since last year, when i heard his WALHALLA. TIESTO is the best live mixer out there...he makes mistakes but WHO CARES? he is the most friendly DJ EVER!!!! mistkaes can be corrrected......PVD makes mistakes too!! but he never smiles. judge jules is in awesome at live set but i never seen him b4

Yep, I agree. Tiesto is very charismatic and friendly.
For a showman, which a DJ is, this is very important. |

out of curiosity do you guys thing 10 years down the raod
it will be mp3 mixers or people will hold true to records?
but as for people saying tiesto cant mix for . if you are referring to hix compilations cds. in my mind the cds are even more impressive because he mixes each cd live on the tables. he said it allows for the best expression of his feelings.
hear someone elses compilation cd, and the timing and mixing is perfect. that's cuz a computer mixed it! and a musical engineer aided the dj. |

True, everyone has their own opinion when it comes to who they feel is the better of the two...but to say that Tiesto sucks as a dj...REPEATEDLY on this thread is ridiculous! I would choose Tiesto over Oakenfold anyday. The Oakenfold mixes that you downloaded may have been completely clean, but that just tells me that you haven't heard all of his mixes because I know for a FACT that he has messed up a few times in just one set. I am not saying that I don't like Oakenfold at all..he's a decent dj. However, the energy that Tiesto brings to the crowd, in combination with his producing abilities AND his mixing skills, puts him ahead of any other dj out there right now. |

as for everyone saying oakie is perfect
i know for a fact that while listening to one of his mixes his beat match was way off. you could hear the two different beats, not just a thu-thump. it was thump - thump.
now, i can screw up my beat matching as well. and if oakie is perfect. then DAMN IM PERFECT ARENT I!!!
