the defense is doing what it should; let eddie see each shot!
And something similar happend last year; Detroit vs. Anahiem. If it wasn't for Giguere then the Ducks wouldn't get where they did. Detroit fired everything at them, but couldn't get anything past Giguere. how many shots Ottawa had, cause Detroit probably fired twice as much at Anahiem's Giguere in their games.
Sometimes thats what happends; a goalie gets in his "groove" and just can't be beaten.
As for Mogilny; he should definately be on the Sundin/Roberts line. Put Tucker with Neiwuendyke (i wonder who got his name right!) and bring Stajan back and put him on that line too.
As for Ponikorovski and Antropov; I'm surprised these 2 are still playing. They're big and stupid...and pussies too cause I never see them use their size. You'd think playing with someone like Neuiwendyke would teach them some dicipline  |

Poni is waaay ahead of Antropov is development and hocky sense...
Everytime Poni is on the ice, he manages to make that extra effort, whether it's fighting off a check, or rubbing someone else off the puck.. Antropov should be in the stands, and Stajan out there with Francis or Joe..
I hope Tucker isn't out after that hit he took.. loked like he pulled his abs again.. |

| ottawa just shot it at eddies pads and missed open nets when they had the chance. goals win games not shots. we deserved to loose that game |

Good point!! Shot on goal are not a sign of a team dominating. Most shots were from the blue line and not screened, good defence.Besides Leafs win more games when they are being outshot, and lose more when they are outshooting opposition. |

| hmm lets think back to last year....leafs lead the series 2-1 at thispoint too...all threee games they were outshot..but thought to have good defence since they were still winning...we lost in the 7th game and got blown out...why? because they figured out our goalie...and i dont think u guys watched the game sens dominated us....not just by shots but they were in our damn zone the whole freakin game...im sorry no matter how u look at it when ur attacking more then 3/4 of the game that means ur dominating..leafs better pick up the pace...doesnt mean they have to go out there and kill themselves and hit hard...nah actually they shouldnt do that at all...sens have too big of a team and if we beat them we're in the finals for sure so we need everyone...i just think if they wanna win this series the leafs got to win themselves not eddie |

Yea, but eddie wasn't the one who scored the Leafs goals...you know...GOALS....the thing that wins games... ;) |

This to all that think the goalie is the only reason Leafs are winning..
Belfour stood on his head for years with Dallas, winning games for them constantly....yet all you heard about was Dallas' great defense.
Broduer stood on his head for years with Jersey, winning games for them constantly....yet all you heard about was Jersey's great defense.
Lalime stones the Flyers in the playoffs and all anyone talks about is how good the Sens' defense is.
Joseph is a god here, and then becomes a backup/minor leaguer as soon as he joins a team that has supposed "contender defense".
Belfour leaves a team with supposed "contender defense" after looking like crap with them, and then has the best two years of his entire career behind our "mediocre" defense.....at age 37 and 38, no less. That's right....Belfour's two years here have been better than any years he spent behind Dallas' "amazing" defense. How did Belfour get so much better in his old age that he can be better behind our defense now than he was behind Dallas' great defense?
It's so tiring.
The Leafs, for some reason, are expected to be the only team in the league that has to apologize for having good goaltending.
At the same time, everyone refuses to believe that the Leafs' are very effective at making their goalies look good, and giving them a chance to be very successful.
The Sens are getting ZERO time to take quality shots. Any time they get near the slot, they have time only to take maybe a little soft wrister or flick shot, or else the leafs are all over them before they get a chance. THe Sens aren't even getting enough time to even TRY to aim the puck. They're firing pucks from the blueline and trying to get bounces, because their skill game has been completely taken away from them by the Leafs. They're getting NO time to expose a goalie......every shot they had was them just banging at the puck.....they could hardly even be described as "shots".
Believe you me.....if our defense let up chances to the Sens like their defense is letting up to us (like Nieuwednyk's and Sundin's goals), Belfour would NOT have 2 shutouts in this series. |

| Blah Blah Blah, the Leafs will be playing gold early for at least another 40 yeats to come yet, they aren't championship material. A goalie is only 1 part of the key! |

ottawa was never outshot 37-17 in that series. lalime has been a pretty good goalie in the playoffs but he has always let in goals at inopportune times and just cant seem to make the big saves at key times.

you may have a point.i dont know, alot of the shots may or may not have been quality, but to imply its all part of a plan or a good strategy is silly. They were outshot 17 - 2 in the third period on a one goal lead and spent most of the period in their own zone. ask the coach if you think thats how they wanted to play. the job of a defenseman is to get the puck out of their zone and help make sure it stays in the opponents zone (even in a trap game) its not to run around and chase the opponents in your own zone to make sure their shots are 'ok'. You think they played a good game and that the leafs have a good defense because they made sure Ottawa's shots wernt 'that good'. Sorry man ottawa lost because ottawa didnt take advantage of their opportunities and because belfour didnt make a mistake, not because of any stellar toronto defense. |
