I've always wondered with regards to your pics whether or not you are putting any kind of special effort into them.
I don't mean that in a bad way. Let me clarify. All of your pics are at such high quality pixelation that they all look spectacular, or at least for the most part they do. At the same time, it looks like you're taking pics of pretty normal stuff. Being that your pics all look so crisp and breathtaking, how does one know whether you're randomly taking pics or if you go around actually looking for specific shots (like the one with the face in the rear view mirror for example).
I don't really know anything about you so I'm asking out of curiosity. Do we all gasp at your pics because you purposely make them artful and we all pick up on it on some level, or are we all gasping at the high pixelation?
Take the photo with the old women on a bench for example. It evokes a certain feeling IMO. Did you mean for it to or were you just taking a random high quality pic of some old women you knew? I guess what I'm asking is: Is there intent behind most of your photos?
Hope that's not too absurd a question to ask. |
well at first thanks for your interest and for pointing out such interesting question, of course everything below this is imho only... i see it like this, other may see it like that.
taking a 3000$ DSLR and shot some "random high quality" pics does NOT make these pics immediately "spectacular, crisp, breathtaking or artful".
since u ask ME personal, i will only explain what I need myself to take "viewable" photos.
the thing behind why i own a camera is at 1st to express myself. u already heared this sentence more than a thousand times: "a picture does say more than thousand words." and as old as this is, as true it is.
if something does catch my attention or if something seems interesting for me, than i ask myself, why this actually is!? why does this specific thing catch MY attention? and why does ME find it interesting? what does it make special for my mind? after finding that out i am just trying to catch "the message" and portray that into a photo...
it sounds like a very complex act after my description but its the opposite. its like something i can not really regulate, and something that happens hundreds times per second in my senses, and something thats going on more in my subconsciousness only. i just cannot live without scrutinising things... *
so there is the main answer of your question: for me personal, there is intent behind every shot, sometimes more sometimes less. however i can NOT expect every beholder to appreciate that intent that is often very subtle.
2nd thing where a good snapshot depends on is luck:
sometimes i can specify exactly what would make this shot awesome but sometimes i dont find any solution and i cant say anything at all about what made it special for me. it has alot to do with impressions...
and if u ask yourself sometime again why some (maybe) totally irrelevant and negligible scenerys and photos seem so interesting and good looking to yourself. watch the light in it! the original defintion of photography is "to draw light" ... the most beautiful scene, the most sexiest woman is just worthless if its badly enlightened. a very interesting light can set something totally normal into something totally special, for me personal this is one of the most important things that "a photographer should never forget" ;)
i hope i could explain it atleast a bit...
*(if u by now are assured that i am insane, i never said i am not... :-) |

Around how many pictures do you take during a normal session out?
How many of those make the cut and are then displayed?
Just curious. ;) |

ohh thats a very dufficult questions since this number decreases continuous because my finickiness raises all the time.
i would say from 1/3 of all shots i take i like only the motif itself. but because of alot of circumstances and hard situations only a total of like 10% or less technically aspects AND motif are acceptable good for me and make it into my official gallery after the claims that i have on my own pics are achieved. i sometimes hate it cauze alot of "good" shots are unvalued... |

Ah, okay. Cool. Now I know :) . I guess the feeling that you put into taking these photos is felt by all of us.
That pic you put in the 'Getting to Know You' thread of you, transparent on the bench was done with the camera only right? A friend of mine took a picture like that by accident once. He came up transparent in the photo. I have no idea how something like that is done though. |
