This never results in a great government, as there isn't such a clear mandate.

At least we have a multi-party system, unlike some others.

Very wise point my friend....that's why I say we unite to vote for who we want as the opposition and let the rest of the voters pick their usual X.

Ok here it goes. To be completely honest no, the Con. do not express my ideals. The problem with Canadian (and probably everywhere else) politics is that one has to vote for a lesser of the evils. The PC's definately did not get my vote...the alliance did. I grew up on a farm if that matters and I was reform, then hesitantly alliance (Stockwell Day is a sketchy individual but you vote for the party not the man) and now Conservative. The other options...hmmm I will not vote for a party that consistantly lies about the same subjects and continues to do it without repremand because of Ontario's likelyness to vote them back in. This cuts the liberals out of my decision. Green Party? Too hippie for me. No members of the block run in my Alberta riding. :) Communist NO, Marksus Lenn NO, Leaves the NDP and Conservatives and lets face it people NDP aren't even in the running for an Opposition spot so every vote for them takes a vote away from the 2 parties that are really in the running for this federal election. It's like throwing your vote away if you want the Liberals out and it's the same as not voting if you want the liberals in. So, as sad as it is, I will vote Conservative as I beleive it to be the lesser of the 2 evils. If they win and prove that they are worse I will certainly be the first one to mark his X for the NDP which I beleive is almost as bad as not voting at all.

Just my opinion.

Who are you voting for and why?

It's not a requirement. The UK has no written constitution at all.

My ancestors immigrated here before 1982.... what's the issue?

Women wore burkas and were slaves before 1982? Nonsense.

^^^ It's not that there were ZERO laws or cases of precedent supporting rights for gays, immigrants, women, etc...but the Charter undeniably strengthened and formalized rights for minority or marginalized groups.

That quiz was interesting...apparently I should be voting NDP on the basis of my feelings, lol. As expected though, Mr. Harper was dead last by a *longshot* ;)

Wurm, good point...many people, myself included, have stronger negative feelings towards the leaders and parties were are not supporting, than we have positive feelings about the party we're supporting. Heck, I'll be blunt and brace for the flames that will come my way:

I don't care if the sponsorship scandal encompassed DOUBLE the money that has thus far been discovered. I dislike Harper and the underlying mode of thinking of the PC/Alliance party THAT much that I'll swallow the scandal and still support the Liberals.

I'd consider NDP long before the PCs, as I do like much of what they have to say. I just find that they don't have achievable goals without plummeting us further in debt. They generally seem to want to implement quick, radical change and that does not appeal to me. For me, the Liberals are still the best of the lot. Martin's budgets and platforms are modest, but realistic and beneficial.

Actually the NDP is doing quite well, according to a legitimate source/polling company, and are gaining much momentum :happy2: They've gained 4 points in the last week, and are at 21%. They haven't come close to that since 1989- where they were at 19%!

I agree that the NDP are not ready to run the country, but they certainly are ready to be an opposition party. Quite frankly, that's what they need, to learn, to negotiate, and to watch. I truly believe the party wants what's good, and Jack Layton is highly regarded in the nation. He's an expert on Urban Planning, so much that he is regularly sought after by organizations nation-wide, academics, and government.

They just really need a chance to learn and grow as a party, I think that being in opposition would be a perfect opportunity.

OMG :eyes:

Harper want to allow the return of Capital Punishment....OMG AIDWC (The Association In Defence of the Wrongly Convicted...of which I'm a member) won't be able to handle the caseload.

What's even worse is that he wants to table the issue of the Right to an Abortion...as if Roe v. Wade made no difference in our Canadian Supreme Court decisions.

What the hell are we living in...barbaric times.

That's it...The gloves are off....All you Conservative Supporters/Croonies....I hope the worst for you all!!! If your going to support malevolent ideals from this party then you don't deserve to be called Canadian. And if you believe in privatization, why don't you go live in the USA. I'm sure you'll love the medicare system there...you friggin Benedict-Arnolds

You wanna know what's barbaric - the fact that Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka are still alive, while three innocent girls are dead.

What kind of a country doesn't execute animals like Bernardo?

Alright so I just realized, after watching some of the speeches, the messages, and the political agendas and plans...that i don't like any of the leading parties -
Liberals - Don't like their plans, agendas, broken promises, and same ideas over and over again.
Conservatives - Don't like their plans, agendas, especially the whole anti gay marriage, anti abortion and overall future for Canada. So far it seems their whole campaign is about blaming the Liberals but not offering anything at all...wtf? :wtf:
NDP - Overall i like their plan the most but then again it's full of crap that I don't like either....so basically the three leading political parties IMO are full of it...:whip:

I didn't really look at some of the other parties but i have the feeling i should start looking more into it cause so far I don't like anyone who's in the running :nervous:

How does that differ from Martin's "new" gov't besides that they were all a part of the last gov't.
