If you want to believe that's what love is, then unromantic you will be.

That still doesn't mean that you're doomed to suffering. Sometimes, an illusion is preferred over reality.

If you close your eyes during a sandstorm it may feel better, but it doesn't mean it's gone.

It's just a matter of time till the sand first hits you.

Assuming that love is indeed an illusion, like ShadowWolf claimed, then the whole concept of a family and the process of getting there is based on living in ignorance for a large period of time. If ignorance leads to suffering, how come there are lots of happy couples/families around?

Love is not an illusion.

Illusion is a distortion of a sensory perception. Love is, in a simple view, "wishing others all the best". If there's a true feeling in a family/couple of "wishing one another all the best", what illusion is there?

The original story sounds like a load of , but the rest of the comments by our fellow tranceaddicts are great.

Well, the original story *is* probably completely made-up, but I think it illustrated its point nicely. :D

And love is not chemicals. Sex is chemicals. Love is a concept of what is beyond...

But it's better to be in a sandstorm with your eyes closed than to be in a pitchblack pit.

Then how do you explain the highly irrational behavior humans display when in love?

aside from trust and respect, which goes without say, I think friendship is key in a relationship that involves the L word.

My boyfriend and I are each other’s best friend. We can pretty much do anything and be happy doing it, since we enjoy each other’s company that much. We can go to a romantic dinner and movie for two and have a passionate love making session after. Or, we can go to the beach, slam beers at hooters (while making fun of ugly hooters chicks), and then go home and have drunken sex too. We can go to a family reunion together, and tough it out, as long as we have each other to keep our sanity. We also laugh so hard we cry sometimes at something we didn’t even have to talk about because we both just knew.

I think being each other’s best friend is one of the most important factors in true love. If you are married (or plan on marrying your gf/bf), you guys better get along for the most part and be on the same page about what you like to do, etc... cuz you’re spending the rest of your life with that person, you’re partners. So I think friendship is key.

Some other factors of unconditional love

-giving your bf/gf the last slice of pizza even though you are so hungry you could eat your own arm.

-calling up the airlines that your bf/gf are flying on (to wherever they are going) to make sure they landed ok. usually that’s a girl thing, I don’t think guys would know to do that.

I won’t bore everyone with little sappy examples, but basically when you put your loved ones before yourself and expect nothing in return.

i also like what that chick from Pulp Fiction says about how you know you've found someone special when you can just shut the up for 2 mintues... i forget exactly what she said, but it was right on:)

That's a pretty sad story. Pretty cool that he gave his helmet to her. Very unselfish.

I think love is unconditional. When you love someone you are willing to do or sacrifice anything for them. You put that person ahead of yourself. You can see past the negatives and the mistakes they make and move forward, to an extent.

I agree with Jamie that friendship is a huge part of it as well. You have to be comfortable with each other and truly relate to each other.

All in vote to stop having to read about Slylee's slobber sessions with her boyfriend say "aye"...
