its a pretty neat diagram.. except for the fact that house and trance are basically the same percussion pattern.. you cant really distinguish house from trance by the pattern of percussion.. its more about the type of percussion used (house tends to sound less electronic) with its samples.
tribal uses the same pattern as house and trance.. its just that the hi hat and clap is usually more subtle.. and you have extra percussion layers, like congo drums or toms.
genre distinction goes way beyond the patterns of percussion
i would say the only logical comparision you have there is between trance and breaks.. and i agree iwth you that jungle is simply breaks speeded up (on the percussion scale only!!!)

Obviously the post you quoted wasn't on topic, so I don't know what you're trying to say with comments like "all the girls keep that in mind when they dance". Of course they don't. LKD posted some bogus statement about music theory and I set him straight - then a few other people asked me questions and I answered them.
As for genre difference, did you see me say at any point in time that the placement of beats was the ONLY difference between them? I'm not an idiot. The samples and BPM used obviously make a huge difference. I only stated that all the major EDM genres use 4/4 as a time and used that chart to explain it to people.
Having said that, you're incorrect about trance, house, and tribal music all using the same drum patterns. The kick on beat 4 during the first bar is VERY distinctive and prevalent in tribal tracks, and most tribal tracks also have the kick between beats 2 and 3. Tribal house may use congos and toms and other more acoustic drums, but if you took that all out and JUST played the kick pattern, almost everyone who listens to EDM would think "tribal" and not "house".
Trance may be similar to house if you strip the beats down, but trance differs in being very inflexible with the placement of drums (and kicks in particular). A house beat tends to be ornamented; trance beats are kept very simple.
That again is not to say that the beat patterns are the only difference between genres, but again, I never said that.
And kids, don't in' whine that some of us are talking about something other than women shaking their booties. Conversations often run off course and I really don't think there's any intelligent thoughts that can be added to the original topic anyway. |
