Disappointing TOTA Behavior (pg. 6)

I really enjoy TOTA for its diversity of topics, so that its not SOLEY music being discussed. really, Orko said it PERFECTLY in the other thread,

I think people here have found many new friends because they were able to bond around other aspects of their life, but were brought here because of music. And to restrict intelligent(for the most part) people to just one topic, is useless. The human brain needs to go out strech its legs and evolve. If we were just kept to music, things would get borning fast!

Its bc of the multitude and variety of topics here on TOTA that i even post here frequently. the lack of general variety on the other boards is the reason i have never felt inclined to join them as well (instead ill just lurk and read the pertinent info w/o posting any feedback/comments)

so, while i do not personally feel its the type of threads causing the problem (or if THAT is the case, it shouldnt be), i think its often the responses within them... as many of yall have already comment before me.

this will always first and foremost be a TRANCE or EDM board. its the core element that connects us all here... it’s the foundation, the reason we prolly all joined up in the first place... but its the other topics that often allow us to get to know one another so well on the board (especially for those that cannot go out to clubs yet, or for those like me who live far away and can only get down to TO maybe once a month).

I don’t know a lot of yall that well, but I keep meeting more and more of yall the more times I go out... and I can honestly say, I WANT to meet ALOT more TAs. And that desire to meet more TAs solely stems from conversing and sharing life stories, moments, whutever on this board!

I say: Keep the variety. Kill the hate!

so you think it is a polite thing to say: "i don't post here anymore because the people here don't know how to argue (insinuating they are stupid) so i'm going to a different board because the level of conversation is better." especially when the other board is made up of people that are completely made up of different people, at different points in their lives.

politcal discussion is great for those that want to discuss it, but if you are constantly forcing people to state and defend their political/religous views on subjects, and put down their intelligence for having those views, it gets to be rude. any ettiquette book will tell you that it is rude. and now i don't need to be told by you that that i need to grow up and i'm not being reasonable. i don't want to discuss politics, and i don't. i'm glad that i'm able to block most of the threads and comments by having one single person on ignore. but things are posted on TOTA, ON PURPOSE ,to get a reaction of out others and that is the lowest form of impoliteness i have ever seen.

and whoever said peoples feeling are hurt by differing opinions? peoples feelings are hurt when their intelligence/education/religion/background/moral beliefs are questioned. if you want to discuss politics on a high level, go where others like you want to discuss those things. it all depends what you want out of it. i truly believe that there are indivuduals on TOTA that only post just to get a rise and at the same time entertain themselves in their boring lives by peoples reactions to certain topics. motives are all wrong. if your motives are to actually discuss those topics on a satisfactory level, you would not post them in TOTA. i mean even on the beloved tribe, there is a political forum and general discussion is not riddled with it, how come people there are able to follow some sort of rules (mostly)?

Margs,I wasn't attacking you personally, and am somewhat surprised you are identifying with the example posted.

You talk about a "attract more fly's with sugar" wish for a nicer, and better TOTA, but open your post I quoted with your own dose of venom. Karim stated an opinion held by many on TRIBE that was posted here, and seemingly held yourself and many in this thread since we are discussing the lack of decorum on TOTA. There is nothing rude about a valid observation.

I'm certainly not defending inflammatory derogatory posters, but those people are a part of everday life, here, work, everywhere. Part of being a functioning adult is taking the high-road, and paying these types no mind in whatever social interaction you partake with them. You mention people and their feelings getting hurt by having their own beliefs/intellect questioned. This is done via differing opinions, and if you haven't the strength of conviction in your own to the degree that you can't be hurt or shaken, then whose fault is that?

I agree with your topic, but you are attacking it wrong.

one thing i always find helpful...is remember that this is the internet, and there is always a chance to be offended. honestly, it does help me get through some of the crap thats out there.

its like watching a horror movie, and being upset by the gore...lol...well maybe not exactly like that...but i hope people see my POV. the internet is there for people to share ideas and concepts which may not have been possible through other venues. It even allows people to be 'themselves', which they could not in real life; and we must accept some people are just jerks, born and raised.

you are never going to be able to control every idiot (me included sometimes :D)

There is always a chance in LIFE that someone is going to get offended. The difference is how easily offended you are. Some people get offended by something as little as "TAXSLAVE" on a licence plate. For others it has to get really mean and downright personal before they get upset.

You can't please all of the people all of the time. I say what I want and try to keep personal comments towards people out of it. If you state your opinion without using insults there is absolutely no reason why someone else should get upset by it. They are free to disagree but "offended" should not be the word used in that case.

If everyone held their opinions in in fear of offending others then it would be a pretty boring world wouldnt it?

There's a difference between having an opinion and being opinionated; which unfortunately is a fine line.
Such is the understanding when reading some posts as tonal semantics are hard to get across from your keyboard to someone else's monitor;
there does have to be some empathy involved.
It's a certain maturity in all of it as well and some people would be better off not typing at all but we all know by now that some people just will be heard.
And that's fine; it's no different when we're in an office/corporate setting and understanding who your players are.
Except them for who/what they are and adjust accordingly; your life will be much easier.

In regards to recent postings, I'll admin I haven't been reading every post but if it really is that bad then....SMARTEN UP!!!
;)

To repeat again

MAKE PEACE NOT WAR!

I totally agree with RJ, Fir3start3r and a few others that have posted in this thread. It disturbs me when I read a TA directing word like (You); "STFU", "Idiot", "retard", "noob", "he/she started it" or pushing his/her politics and passing judgement on another TA that they haven't even met before.
It's been months that I've noticed the flaming and useless political bashing and it should stop. Everytime one of us behaves badly on the forum, they drag all of our credibility through the mud (since we associate or are friends with them).
I know it's easier said than done...and no one is perfect (myself included). Perhaps it's best to just rethink using the words associated with "You" because that word in itself can be percieved as aggressive.

Now I know we can't always get along, but I think as TA's we are all entitled to "share" our opinions. If we disagree, how hard can it be to say, "IMO I disagree with your view"...rather than using hurtful and negative words or disguising your attacks with the word debating.

As TA's we should be more tolerant, courtious and considerate of each other. In other words...we should be one big happy team sticking up for each other not fighting or bickering with each other. We are all fantastic ppl in here and we all have something great to contribute. Let's not blow it by behaving so petty :D

everyone by nature is opinionated. I think the difference is that some are less fearful than others when it comes to expressing it.

I think it's more in how they choose to express themselves...(and yes, some just have no conscious whatsoever :P )

And there are some who are offensive and antagonistic with it too. So let's not make excuses for intolerable behaviour. Show some courtesy and it will be returned in two-folds.

my post is venomous because i said in it? or what other part of it is venomous, the fact that Tribe posters are a lot older and at different points in their lives? It IS the truth.

RJ, stated that he did not like what was going on on TOTA. He did NOT mention that it is better somewhere else. Who are the people that brought up Tribe in the first place? Instead of stating what can be done to improve TOTA, like most other people in this thread, karim and you have both stated how more mature the Tribers are. Why add more fuel to the fire? Maybe, you did it subcontiously, but you did exactly what I was talking about. Posting something that will get a reaction out of people. Everyone on TOTA knows that most of the TBK (and i'm talking about not every single poster, but the ones on the inner circle of Tribers) thinks low of TA. Why bring up the issue yet again?

Can you admit that it was not a right place or the right time to bring that up? And I will agree that using in my post was rude.
