Just to clarify that the WHOLE point of this thread is in regards to TOTA disappointing behaviour and just to clarify that name calling does fall into this catagory.
Just because someone says I love you - to those that are fighting and bickering here, doesn't me they are a hippie in any shape or form.

It seems to me that many people have missed the point that RJ was actually trying to make.
Yes, politics and religion are touchy issues. Musical taste is a touchy issue. Physical appearance is a touchy issue. Fashion is a touchy issue. The latest celebrity gossip is a touchy issue. EVERYTHING is a touchy issue. If people on TA never brought up touchy issues, there'd be no posts whatsoever. Everything is a touchy issue to someone.
Regardless of what we say or do or how much we complain, there will ALWAYS be people on TOTA who push political agendas, or religion, or why trance sucks and prog is tEh r0x0rz. Many of us do it unconsciously because we're used to being around people who agree with us. There will always be people who disagree and there will always be arguments. That's life. Telling a person not to speak about controversial issues is at best akin to telling them not to speak at all, but to me seems more like a masked attempt to shift the blame toward people who disagree with you on said issues.
There's absolutely no sense in trying to exculpate our "peace-loving" selves and blame the well-known (or less-well-known) "instigators". There's nothing wrong with disagreements and arguments, it's how we manage those disagreements and how we conduct ourselves in those arguments that matters. Arguments are fun and informative. It's when people respond to another person's argument with cursing and personal attacks that the hate cycle begins and everything degenerates.
Read the quotes that RJ posted. They say, in a nutshell, that just because someone has hurt you (often inadvertently) does not make it OK or even logical to try to hurt them back. And it's far too easy to take any comment you disagree with and label it as "offensive" or "hurtful".
There are better ways to deal with the situation when someone has upset you. Think about those. Think of yourselves as sales or support staff - you will always, without fail, get cranky customers who give you , but you are still responsible for keeping your cool and maintaining a professional image. I think there are very few on this board who can say that they have upheld this principle 100% of the time. |

i'll give you my opinion, just like observer cause i do not know lots of you and honestly i try my best not to get into argument with anybody, so take this as a constructive criticism and not as something bad.
too much politics !!!
when i joined there was some flaming but it was usual stuff, nothing too serious and all of a sudden every second topic was something about politics. now what is an average age of a TOTA ???? seems to me that we have people from 18 to maybe 30-ish, right??? what i cannot understand is how come that so many people are into politics when there is so many other things that we could discuss. how can somebody so young be so preoccupied with politics is beyond me. politics destroyed my childhood, and take my word for it, nothing good can come out of, its only drawing bad blood between people. and why do we need that here???? isnt there alredy enough hurtin' everywhere around us??? this here, what we have, should be an oasis from reality, a place where we can talk about EVERYTHING (politics included but cmon, not like this), but mostly about music, parties, you know, not everyday regular bull. i would strongly reccomend making just one topic and sticky it titled "daily politics" or something like that, then asking everybody to be so nice and to post all politics there (or if that doesnt work simply move every topic that includes "liberals" or whatnot there). if it stays like this its just gonna get uglier, trust me.
rudeness - HOLY what is up with that???? i understand tha some people dont like some people (and that is normal) but name calling, badmouthing mothers, "die you retard" aned some other ????? and what i really dont understand is how can you be in the same room with a person that talks about your mother and eveg to with that person to a party and have fun with them????? show some more respect to each other goddamit, suck it up, be a bigger man, do not retaliate right away. some people will never learn cause honestly and thats why some people should just be ignored.
u know how many times i see some of you at guv, or system or boa and i really wanna stop by, introduce myself and my friends(some of you knows some of my friends, sick sick dancers, very nice and polite people, really fun to party with) and get down with y'all but then i see 2 persons that were at each other throats here on the board having great time together, and for me that is wrong, so i just back away and wait for the next time. i am what i am, here and in real life and that is what i want to see from others, not " you, you ing " in the morning here, then "you are a great guy" later that evening at boa, and then next day " you suck you....." on the board.
BE REAL and be nice, its not that much to ask, right?????
now PLEASE, this is just my view of the whole situation, i didnt think of anybody specific when i wrote all this so if somebody think i was talking about them, i was not so try and understand that we all have to work together to make this better, more interesting place.
some of you that i had pleasure of meeting are super, and there is some incredibly interesting people that i would really love to meet but if this bull continues then why bother???
